The striking thing about Thomas V. Gadbois & Sons isn't the rating — it's how long people keep calling back. One reviewer wrote in April 2025 that Tom had worked on their places for thirty years; another, in August 2024, said they met him almost forty years ago and still keep his number on hand. Google shows 5.0 from 23 ratings, and all 17 written reviews are five stars. The shop runs out of Old Webster Road in Oxford and covers Worcester County. Its site describes a family business founded by Tom, now with his sons on the jobs, and BBB names Thomas Gadbois as owner. The Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 125162, is active and held in Tom Gadbois's own name. BBB has accredited the business since September 2009 and grades it A+, recording the partnership as started in 1983 — the company's own site claims a shorter run, over 25 years. What homeowners actually hire them for splits two ways. Outside: siding in vinyl, shake and composite, plus architectural, asphalt and EPDM roofing, windows, gutters and decks. An August 2024 reviewer described a vinyl siding job where the crew took time to clean up throughout; that October, another said Tom's crew replaced their roof decking and shingles in a few days. Inside: whole kitchens. A March 2025 reviewer walked through a large kitchen renovation — a wall taken down, a garden window added, custom cabinets, flooring, lighting and plumbing — finished on budget and on time. An August 2024 reviewer said they mentioned wanting old-look glass for a built-in china cabinet once, and Tom went out of his way to track down the exact glass. They are not the low bidder, and a customer said so plainly. Writing in April 2025 and hiring them anyway, that reviewer opened with a line worth repeating: "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten." Settle the price early. The other thing to know is the shape of the written history — 17 reviews landed between mid-2024 and mid-2025, and the newest is over a year old. There's a commercial side too. A July 2024 reviewer writing for a company described siding work, excavation and consulting, and credited Tom with an Alcoa golden hammer award for renovations on a school in Webster. If you want one crew for a whole-house job — roof and siding outside, kitchen and bath inside — and you're weighing craftsmanship over the lowest number, this is a sensible call. Pin the scope and price down in writing, and ask for a couple of current references given when the reviews were written.
Tom has done multiple construction jobs at our home, most recently replaced our deck and patio. The results exceeded anything we could have expected. Tom has always exceeded our expectations and puts exceptional effort into all his work, and within reasonable budget. He follows all codes and work ethics. Because Tom has vast experience with all things construction, he has also provided recommendations that we would not have been aware of, and enhancing the project. If you are searching for a contractor that will go way beyond your expectations, then I would highly recommend Tom.
There is a saying that I learned and have proven true many times over the years. "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten". Tom Gadbois and Sons may not seem to be the best price, but Tom's attention to quality and perfection may be unmatched in the construction business, and is well worth it if you want total satisfaction. He has done numerous projects for us over the last 30 years, from a total remake of our summer cottage, and new roof, new kitchen and new cedar on our garage on our home, complete remake of a house that we re-sold, complete rebuild of the house I grew up in, and the list goes on. I have recommended him to numerous people and all have been very satisfied. The before and after photos show the range of a few of the projects he has done for us and the remarkable transformation of some of these properties. Tim and Jane Hare
We’ve used Tom for several projects indoor and outdoor. His craftsmanship is top-notch, we are impressed with his knowledge and expertise to all tasks. He truly exceeded our expectations-worth every penny to get the job done right!
Tom did an amazing job on multiple projects for us. The biggest was a large kitchen renovation where we took down a wall, added a garden window, and put in all custom cabinets. Everything from cabinetry, flooring, lighting, plumbing was amazing! All within budget and on time. He and his sons were dedicated to quality work and put in the extra hours to meet the timeline. Tom also did a roofing job for us and after my parents passes away, came in and got their place looking great for a sale! I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again anytime!
We met Tom at a Home Improvement show and loved him from the minute we met him. He was easy to talk to, and had many ideas and suggestions for a process that seemed completely overwhelming to us. We did a complete overhaul and rescontruction of our kitchen. He completely transformed it into a kitchen that we ABSOLUTELY love!! He is very friendly, reliable, trustworth, punctual, and super easy to work with. His work is impecable and his attention to detail is amazing!!!! I would highly recommend Tom for any remodeling job!!
