13 Gables Inc, run by David Gemme out of Oxford, is a custom-home builder and renovation general contractor working Central Massachusetts and the Metro West — the theme across a decade of reviews is how closely Gemme runs the job himself, coordinating subcontractors and walking clients through decisions rather than handing the project off. The company says it has operated in the region since 1986. In a December 2024 review, one family building their 'forever home' said Gemme personally made sure their custom kitchen matched their specifications, down to a cabinet mixer lift and counters set for a 6-foot-plus husband. Another family finishing a full house build that same month called him a general contractor who 'oversees top notch sub-contractors' and walked them through the process. A January 2026 review of a basement remodel called the result better than expected, and a hair-salon renovation from late 2024 was finished on schedule with the owners kept informed throughout. In late 2024, several other reviewers described hiring the company for more than one project, calling the results consistently organized and on time. One of the oldest accounts on file, a 2015 review describing a 1999 home build, said Gemme used better materials than neighboring builders for the same price. BuildZoom's own listings disagree with each other on one of the company's Construction Supervisor licenses — one page shows it verified active as of mid-2026, another shows the same number reported inactive and once cancelled — and a separate Home Improvement Contractor registration on file there is also listed inactive. Worth confirming current license status directly before signing anything. A good fit for a full custom build or a significant whole-home renovation where a homeowner wants one person running point on the subs; get the license paperwork and project scope in writing before starting.
