Tom's Painting & Contracting is a family-owned business in Marblehead that describes itself as serving the North Shore — Marblehead, Swampscott, and Salem — for decades; the company's own site says 40 years, while BBB's listing puts the figure at 54. The written record is thin and mixed. A Reddit thread in r/northshore, from a January 2026 exterior-painters recommendation request, named Tom's as a suggestion. But a 2022 Google review told a different story: the customer said they held off writing it for six months and kept finding issues with an exterior paint job over that time, specifically saying they wouldn't recommend the company for exterior work (they had no opinion on interior painting). Google's overall rating sits at 3.7★ from a small base of 6 ratings, and BBB gives the business an A+ grade, though it isn't BBB-accredited and its page shows no customer reviews or complaint counts. With so few data points and a real complaint specifically about exterior durability, it's worth asking pointed questions about warranty and prep work before an exterior job, even though the company has also been recommended informally.

“Tom’s painting in Marblehead”
I put off dropping a review for half a year but continue to find issues from the exterior paint project. If you need exterior work I wouldn’t recommend, can’t speak for interior painting though.
