Top Notch Contracting is a Burlington-based general contractor with an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration and a Minority Business Enterprise certification through the state's Supplier Diversity Office. Owners Ohannes and Moses lead a team large enough to run its own in-house electrical department alongside carpentry, plumbing, tile, and painting crews — an unusually complete in-house setup for a company this size. The volume of detail here is substantial: 49 reviews since 2021 describe everything from small electrical fixes to whole-house gut renovations and new construction. A 200-year-old Charlestown home needed significant structural repair that displaced the family for seven months; reviewers describe complex additions built from architectural drawings, a duplex remodel in a historic downtown Boston rental building handled with weekly video updates, and a full electrification project done in partnership with MASS SAVE. One landlord in the greater Boston area has used the company across several rental properties, including full gut renovations of a two-family in Brookline and a three-family in Cambridge. What comes up again and again is responsiveness under pressure. When a family returned from a trip to a leak running down three floors, the crew rebuilt the window frame the same day; when an old church needed a new roof without disrupting Sunday services, the job was finished in a week. Several project managers get named repeatedly across different reviews — Brian, Josh, Mike N., Jay — suggesting a team deep enough to run multiple jobs at once without losing the personal touch reviewers describe: removing work boots in a client's home, hitting a quote to the dollar, patiently walking first-time renovators through a 2.5-month planning process before work even begins. The electrical department stands on its own reputation, too — several reviews specifically credit named electricians for precise, code-compliant work on everything from full rewiring to a chandelier requiring hundreds of hand-attached crystals. For a homeowner considering a serious project — an addition, a gut renovation, a historic restoration — this is a contractor whose reviewers keep coming back for a second and third job. Worth confirming current lead times, since the volume and scale of the work described suggests a busy schedule.

Easily the best experience I’ve had with contractors. Not only did the project stay on schedule and on budget, but the work was exactly what we hoped for - top of the line in all respects. Brian was an excellent on site manager and great communicator. It was also easy to see progress and know what to expect thanks to the online platform (the great documentation of the process will also come in handy if we ever have to make repairs or adjustments in the future). Overall, our finished basement looks better than we ever hoped it would and in all respects, is better constructed than the rest of our house!
We recently completed a major home renovation (3 bathrooms, gut renovation of 2nd floor) with Top Notch, and highly recommend them. From the start — including a 2.5-month interview and planning period — the team was easy to work with, transparent, and genuinely invested in the project. Mike, Mitch and Ohannes were fantastic - they were open, honest, responsive, and always willing to walk us through decisions or next steps. Their steady communication made a big renovation feel manageable. The team also stayed impressively on schedule. Aside from a small end-stage hiccup that pushed move-in by about 3–4 weeks, the project stayed on or ahead of timeline — rare for a renovation of this scale. Mike and Mitch deserve special credit for their exceptional support and leadership.
Highly recommend! Moses and his team are fantastic to work with. They are always communicating, highly knowledgeable and do incredible work! We are so happy with everything that we had the team work on, You won’t be disappointed if you go with this crew !
We worked with Top Notch Contracting after purchasing our new home. Moses, Jay, Alex, and the team went above and beyond, treating our home as if it were one of their own. Safety and quality were prioritized, while also being very responsive to our timeline. They got to know us as clients, and we worked together as a team on improvements inside and outside. The quality of the work speaks for itself. Everything was completed at a high standard, and we saw the quality at each step. Top Notch took the time to explain what they were doing, why, and how our home works so we can be informed homeowners. What really set them apart was their dedication to us as clients. They didn’t just show up to do a job - they became an integral part of the process and were with us every step of the way, for almost an entire year. They are incredibly responsive, always available to answer questions, offer advice, and most importantly, problem solve whenever we hit a snag. Everything was handled with professionalism. In particular, Jay, our project manager, went above and beyond with everything. We are so happy with Top Notch, our home, and our continued partnership with them, and fully recommend them to anyone seeking trustworthy and skilled contractors.
Working with Top Notch was an amazing experience. During a very stressful time of moving, Moses and the team delivered in record time brand new beautiful white oak hardwood flooring for the 2nd floor of our home, and finished well before our move-in deadline. It’s still the favorite part of our home to be in. The craftsmanship is top quality. In addition to floors, we managed to knock out several punchlist items before moving in so we could set our family up for success (hvac issues, plumbing and electric, as well as outdoor deck repairs). I highly recommend hiring Top Notch if you’re looking for superior quality and deadline driven projects, they will not disappoint!
