Top Notch Contracting is a Burlington-based custom home builder and renovation contractor built around high-performance work — new construction, additions, and net-zero or passive house retrofits — with electrical, excavation, millwork, and snow removal handled by its own crews rather than subcontracted out, by its own account. On Google, it holds a 4.8-star average from 74 ratings. Its ten most recent reviews are all five stars, and that consistency holds across a five-year run of reviews dating back to 2021. The most recent one, from January, describes a renovation that stayed on schedule and on budget from start to finish, with on-site manager Brian credited for steady communication and progress tracked through an online platform — the kind of project discipline its longer history backs up rather than contradicts. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license (176212) is verified active against the state registry. It also holds a PHIUS passive-house credential and an IGSHPA accreditation for geothermal heat-pump installation, both claimed on its own site rather than independently verified elsewhere. Bathroom remodeling and multi-trade renovation work come up repeatedly across its longer review history, in line with a business built to keep a full project team in-house rather than hand pieces off to outside subs. Worth asking about before booking: recent review volume has thinned out, with only one Google review landing in the last six months, so it's worth confirming current crew availability and lead times directly. The passive-house and geothermal credentials are real trade certifications, but since they're self-reported, ask to see the documentation if that performance angle matters for your project. This is the right call for a homeowner planning a substantial addition, gut renovation, or a high-performance build who wants one team accountable for the whole job — less of a fit for someone who just needs a single quick trade visit.

Easily the best experience I’ve had with contractors. Not only did the project stay on schedule and on budget, but the work was exactly what we hoped for - top of the line in all respects. Brian was an excellent on site manager and great communicator. It was also easy to see progress and know what to expect thanks to the online platform (the great documentation of the process will also come in handy if we ever have to make repairs or adjustments in the future). Overall, our finished basement looks better than we ever hoped it would and in all respects, is better constructed than the rest of our house!

We recently completed a major home renovation (3 bathrooms, gut renovation of 2nd floor) with Top Notch, and highly recommend them. From the start — including a 2.5-month interview and planning period — the team was easy to work with, transparent, and genuinely invested in the project. Mike, Mitch and Ohannes were fantastic - they were open, honest, responsive, and always willing to walk us through decisions or next steps. Their steady communication made a big renovation feel manageable. The team also stayed impressively on schedule. Aside from a small end-stage hiccup that pushed move-in by about 3–4 weeks, the project stayed on or ahead of timeline — rare for a renovation of this scale. Mike and Mitch deserve special credit for their exceptional support and leadership.

We worked with Top Notch Contracting after purchasing our new home. Moses, Jay, Alex, and the team went above and beyond, treating our home as if it were one of their own. Safety and quality were prioritized, while also being very responsive to our timeline. They got to know us as clients, and we worked together as a team on improvements inside and outside. The quality of the work speaks for itself. Everything was completed at a high standard, and we saw the quality at each step. Top Notch took the time to explain what they were doing, why, and how our home works so we can be informed homeowners. What really set them apart was their dedication to us as clients. They didn’t just show up to do a job - they became an integral part of the process and were with us every step of the way, for almost an entire year. They are incredibly responsive, always available to answer questions, offer advice, and most importantly, problem solve whenever we hit a snag. Everything was handled with professionalism. In particular, Jay, our project manager, went above and beyond with everything. We are so happy with Top Notch, our home, and our continued partnership with them, and fully recommend them to anyone seeking trustworthy and skilled contractors.

Working with Top Notch was an amazing experience. During a very stressful time of moving, Moses and the team delivered in record time brand new beautiful white oak hardwood flooring for the 2nd floor of our home, and finished well before our move-in deadline. It’s still the favorite part of our home to be in. The craftsmanship is top quality. In addition to floors, we managed to knock out several punchlist items before moving in so we could set our family up for success (hvac issues, plumbing and electric, as well as outdoor deck repairs). I highly recommend hiring Top Notch if you’re looking for superior quality and deadline driven projects, they will not disappoint!
