Townsend Energy

Townsend Energy is a fuel-delivery and home-services company that lists Merrimack, NH among the towns it serves. A recent r/Somerville commenter who has used the company over the years said a notice in the mail announced that its contract fee will double. In December 2025, an r/newhampshire commenter said Townsend has been better but that they just about ran out of oil that week. Its website lists heating oil, propane and diesel delivery alongside HVAC, plumbing and electrical installation and repair, with service areas in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. The company says it was founded in 1931 by Mial E. Townsend, who started out delivering kerosene and heating oil from his home in Beverly Farms, MA, and describes itself as family-owned. A 2026 Google reviewer who switched from Amerigas wrote of being very happy with the service and credited a staff member the reviewer remembered as Crystal or Kristin. A 2024 Google reviewer called the company nice to deal with over the phone. A 2023 r/newhampshire commenter wrote of good luck with Townsend Energy a few years earlier, with no hard sell while in a bind, and praised the installer, Matt. A 2024 r/ArlingtonMA commenter wrote that Amanda's Oil had been absorbed by Townsend Energy. A 2022 Google reviewer wrote that Petro Home Services sold its New Hampshire oil business to Townsend Energy without notifying customers, that the reviewer's contract was terminated the day of delivery, and that Townsend did not honor Petro's contracts or help in the transition; that reviewer called it a scam.
