Universal Mechanical Contractors has been putting furnaces and central air into North Shore houses since 1982 — a five-person shop working out of a Lynn PO box, with Peter Lyon as president and Karen Lyon as office manager. The trade is narrow and consistent: forced hot air furnaces, central air conditioning and heat pump systems, plus humidifiers and electronic air cleaners. Its BBB profile carries an A+ grade, and the company is not a BBB-accredited business. What is not there is anyone's account of hiring them. The BBB page shows no customer reviews and no complaints, and nothing else about the company surfaced. Forty-four years in one trade counts for something; it is not the same as a written history you can read. If you are replacing a furnace or an air conditioning system on the North Shore, they are a reasonable name to include in your quotes — ask for a few recent local references and get the scope and price in writing.
