Volksheim Home Improvement is Paul Cucinelli's family-run shop out of Salem, and the record splits cleanly into two kinds of jobs: the plumbing and carpentry work people keep calling him back for, and one heating-system installation that went badly wrong. The company holds an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration under Paul Cucinelli, current through March 2028, and describes itself as family-owned and locally operated, working towns across the North Shore from Salem and Beverly out to Newburyport and Gloucester. Most of the record is plumbing and carpentry, and it runs deep. One customer calls Volksheim their "go-to" firm after using them repeatedly for a gas water heater replacement, a sump pump repair, and furnace service. Others describe more involved carpentry: a rotted door frame in an 1800s bathroom that turned into a full new door, frame and drywall job finished on budget within two weeks; a kitchen cabinet shortened to fit a taller refrigerator; a storm door installed on schedule and within budget. One reviewer specifically credits Volksheim with fixing carpentry work a previous contractor had botched. The one serious complaint on file, from a 2025 Angi review, describes something different: a full heating-system replacement — an on-demand water heater and hydro-air system — that kept shutting off weekly and required five or six return visits before the customer brought in someone else, who said the installation itself was wrong and had to be redone at a cost of $22,500. It's worth asking pointed questions if the job in question is a larger HVAC installation rather than routine plumbing or carpentry repair. Outside that one review, the pattern across Thumbtack and Angi is consistently positive — responsive, detail-oriented, and reliable are the words that keep recurring, with several customers saying they'd hire Paul again. For everyday plumbing repairs, carpentry fixes, and general home-improvement work, Volksheim's record is solid; for a larger HVAC installation, it's worth confirming how that 2025 job was resolved before signing on.
paul is a professional and an unwavering perfectionist!! Jonathan, an employee, did some terrifc finish work. I'm going to ask the back for another project when the wather gets warmer. nice guys and great work !

Paul was very responsive and very easy to talk to! He was knowledgeable and would provide solid professional advice with reasonable recommendations for repair and maintenance. I am very happy with his quality work for the gas furnace repair work! I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of assistance!
Paul was great to work with and he did a wonderful job. He has a small team with a flexible schedule and they were able to get my project on the books and complete within 2 weeks, start to finish. We hired Paul to replace a door frame to our wacky 1800s bathroom. It ended up being a can-of-worms when we opened up our wall and Paul was able to fix the problem and make it look perfect while staying in budget. Will be sure to reach out him in the future for more projects!! See pic for finished work (entire new door & door frame, new drywall, and a lot of carpentry!)
Volksheim Home Improvements fixed the the problems that a different company created. The finished work looks great. Very professional and good quality.
