Wells Custom Framers has built its Berkshire County reputation on framing houses through New England's toughest conditions. A five-star Google review from July 2026 describes founder Tim Wells framing a home in Otis during what the customer called 'a brutal winter,' staying available for questions throughout and working directly with the truss manufacturer to carve out usable second-floor storage space — the kind of on-the-fly problem-solving a framing job often demands. Based in Dalton, MA, the company says it was started by Wells, a 1990 UMass Amherst business graduate, and has run for over two decades doing commercial and residential wood framing, plus window installation and siding, across Western and Central Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration (#152304) is active and verified against the state registry; the same license number appears on BuildZoom's own listing, where the company also shows 17 permitted projects and a score in the top 10% of Massachusetts contractors. Worth asking about before booking: OSHA cited the company's work at a Sheffield, MA site with 4 violations and $2,800 in proposed penalties, according to a third-party enforcement-record site. And with only one customer review on file so far, there isn't yet a deep independent track record to weigh against that citation. For a framing-heavy new build, addition, or window and siding job in the Berkshires or nearby Connecticut, Wells looks like a credentialed, founder-run operation with a verified license. Raise the OSHA citations directly and ask for a couple of recent references before signing on.
“The lucky recipients of these great items were Wayne Bessette of Waycon, Inc and Timothy Wells of TR Wells Custom Framers. Congratulations!”
“T.R. WELLS CUSTOM FRAMERS, LLC — a residential remodelers facility located at 982 HOME RD, SHEFFIELD, MA 01257 — was the subject of a formal OSHA inspection that resulted in 4 citation(s) and cumulative proposed penalties of $2,800.00.”
Tim did my house in Otis, Ma. The work is spectacular. This was a brutal winter and he got it done. Not only did he do the framing but he was always available to answer questions. He also spent time with the truss manufacturer to create storage on the second floor which now has my second floor heat ac system. About the trusses, he didn't order until the walls were poured and he remeasured. Good thing or they would have been off 4 inches. Survey mistake but it turned out no problem. I have been in construction over 40 years. This company is amazing and I wouldn't consider anyone else. Price. Service. Craftsmanship. Personality. Perfect job. Tim is also very easygoing and calm which helps tremendously. His workers are neat, professional, friendly, hardworking, and they spoke highly of tim which means alot. They cleared the jobsite on completion. See attached photos. I can't say enough good things. This job went smooooooooth. 😁
