In a June 2026 two-star Google review, a customer says they brought samples for frosted glass panes to Westport Glass Co; the first set was cut to the size of the glass plus the adhesive and would not fit, and the remade acid-etched panes were fragile enough that the installer the shop recommended partially damaged the finish setting them. Within a couple of weeks, the customer says, about 35% of the etching had flaked, the shop said it could not reproduce a sandblasted finish, and repeated requests for a resolution went nowhere. The Riverside Avenue shop describes itself on HomeAdvisor as having over 60 years in custom glass and specializing in frameless glass shower and tub enclosures. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, held by Westport Glass Company, is active. Google shows 4.2 stars from 32 ratings and HomeAdvisor 4.7 from 6. In a May 2023 Google review, a homeowner says the company changed their shower doors and replaced broken glass in a French door, all completed in a timely manner. An August 2023 customer says they have used the business for 30 years. In an April 2025 review, a customer who broke a garage door glass panel says a cut piece was ready for pickup 15 minutes after a 4:15 PM call. On HomeAdvisor, a December 2018 customer says the installers got the fit right despite an antique house with uneven walls, and a November 2019 customer rated the job 3.5 stars, praising the office and estimators but saying an installer could have been more truthful. A Reddit commenter in August 2025 recommended the company for Fairfield County.
“if you’re in Fairfield County i’d recommend Westport Glass”
“They include architect Frederick Hoag, contractor Chris O’Dell of the O’Dell Group, interior designer Elizabeth Murstein, and Dennis Grimaldi of Westport Glass.”
“Fromentin contracted local family-owned businesses, including European Woodcraft and Westport Glass, to refurbish the space, which she said is superior to her former studio at 3 Quincy St.”
They don't care about smaller projects. Save your money and go elsewhere. Came in with exact samples to avoid confusion, discussed the nature of the application and the need for a durable frosted finish. They made the panes the size of the glass + the adhesive on the sample. I knew immediately they wouldn't fit so I left all but one there since they had an attitude and took a photo to prove they wouldn't fit. They remade panes that were the right size but the quality of the acid etching was so frail that the contractor (that they recommended using) couldn't set them without partially damaging the finish. So I only had him replace a few panes. Within a couple of weeks, about 35% of the etching flaked and looked terrible. The original sandblasted panes have been fine for over a decade. The position of both the "office" and shop is they cannot reproduce a basic sandblasted finish, acid etching is the only option. I contacted them a few times for a resolution but they aren't interested. I found someone to take on my impossible task but figured I would circle back with a review since they kept they were paid for the job.
I recently broke a panel of glass in my garage door and needed a replacement quickly. I called Westport Glass at 4:15 PM, and my order was ready for pickup in just 15 minutes. The service was top-notch, and the product was excellent. The piece I needed was cut perfectly, and I had no issues installing it.. Thanks Westport Glass!
