In a September 2025 review, a homeowner described a flat rubber roof stripped and replaced over six straight working days, through the middle of a heat wave. Roofing is where Winter Hill Builders started and still does most of its work, but the jobs clients describe spread out from there — porches torn down and rebuilt, decks, siding and gutters, a detached garage refurbished top to bottom.
The company works out of Danvers and, by its own account, is family-owned and has been in business since 2014, led by founder Gustavo Cardoso with Robert, the two having worked together in roofing since 2010. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #204047, is active. Its BBB page is an accredited A+, and its site describes the company as a GAF Master Elite roofing contractor.
Sixty-three written accounts run from 2022 to 2026 across Google and Angi, and the same names keep surfacing in them: Mateus managing projects, Ana on scheduling, Robert writing the contract, Webstter on the sales side, Alex leading a crew. In February 2025 a client had a front porch torn down entirely, with Winter Hill taking on the Historic Commission approval and the building permit. In April 2025, after a wind storm drove a large tree branch through the inside of a house, the team handled the repair. That September, another homeowner who had struggled to find one contractor for both jobs had a chimney taken down, the roof sealed and the fireplace refaced.
Two accounts pull the other way, and both are worth raising before you sign. In December 2023 a four-star reviewer said a deck planned for two weeks took three months, the price rose twice over something overlooked in the planning, and two doors under the deck ended up opening with a string instead of a latch. In October 2025 a one-star reviewer said the company charged much more than the contract, that there was no final inspection, that another inspector told them the installation between the roof and the lower levels was not correct, and that extra plywood was never shown to them.
