A rocky yard is where a fence crew shows what it knows. A 2023 customer with one wrote that Woodward got every post straight and at the right height, in wood they called top notch, and said plainly that the job was not cheap. In October 2024 another customer watched Lou Woodward cut tree roots out of the ground to get a vinyl picket fence in, and hold the price he had quoted. Woodward Fence & Supply designs, supplies and installs wood, vinyl and steel fence out of Newbury for homes, businesses and towns. Lou owns it and works alongside his crew, which is where most of these accounts start. The jobs run from routine to custom. In a 2023 review a customer whose household had used the company for years — and the previous owners of the property for decades before that — described a fence along the pool, a privacy fence a few years earlier and a rose arbor, and wrote that Lou stands behind his work. Another 2023 customer had storm damage repaired straight away and said the fence looked new when the crew left. A September 2023 customer noted that the promised start and finish dates were both met and the property was kept clean throughout. The one complaint is about what came afterwards. A customer whose posts and a long run of fencing were replaced in spring 2022 wrote in August 2024 that the work was good at the time, but a post snapped inside a year, leaving the fence in a compromised position, and they had not managed to get the company back out to it. One more thing to know: the company's own site gives 1999 as the year it was established, and elsewhere claims four decades in the fencing industry. For a custom fence, difficult ground or storm repair on the North Shore, this is an owner-on-site shop whose quotes hold. Get the workmanship warranty in writing before you sign — what it covers, for how long, and how a callback gets scheduled.

The owner, Lou Woodward, is very personable. He works with his crew and works as hard as they do. He is thorough when making an estimate and sticks to the price quoted. He had to cut out tree roots in order to complete the new vinyl picket fence we were having installed. That was no easy task I hired him and his crew twice this year and the only complaint I have is that it takes a while before he can start on my project. He is in that much of a demand with customers. It may take a while before he can get to your job. Thanks to Lou and his crew for a great job. I will be calling them again.
Had worked completed in spring of 2022. They did a great job initially replacing multiple posts and fixing a large portion of fencing for us. One of the fence post installed snapped within a year, leaving the fence in a very compromising position and haven’t been able to get them back to fix it. Apparently fixing 1 post isn’t enough money or worth the time of their crew to come back compared to a $1k+ project for them. Figured they’d come back to replace something that was put in by them to help out a customer, but has completely ignored all calls and emails. Feeling very frustrated after months of trying to contact them with no response. Would not recommend if you are trying to get a project done in timely fashion purely based on being ignored as a previously paying customer.
