In a September 2025 review, a customer wrote that more than three years after hiring Bruno of X-Tend they held a court judgment in their favor and a Writ of Execution the Sheriff's Office had tried to enforce — and still had not been paid. On Angi and HomeAdvisor, the same company carries 4.6 stars across 61 ratings, 84% of them five-star. Both things are true of XTend Contracting, a Woburn, Massachusetts carpentry, deck, remodeling and painting outfit run by Bruno Bastos. The work that goes well gets specific praise. In a May 2024 review, a homeowner said the crew took a porch from demo footings to roof in four days. A December 2024 customer described exterior trim repair with damaged sections replaced and matched to the existing style. In a March 2025 review, a homeowner said the deck build went smoothly and the team's quick replies kept them up to date on where the project stood; another March 2025 reviewer, a repeat customer, listed years of painting, repairs and room remodeling. Angi reviewers in December 2023 and November 2024 wrote about crews arriving on time and cleaning up at the end of each day. The complaints are not about craftsmanship — they are about money and schedule. In an August 2023 review, a customer wrote that after more than a year of lies and delays they sued and won a $7,500 small-claims judgment, the maximum award plus interest, and that payment was still being avoided. A March 2025 reviewer wrote that Bruno takes the money and then does nothing for months, does not apply for permits, and blames the town for the delay. A May 2024 customer who hired the company twice gave two stars: the first job, a $10,000 exterior stair replacement with a small decking job, was responsive and finished in a reasonable timeframe, and the second went very differently. The directory pages carry that split. BBB grades the business F for failing to respond to three filed complaints, one of them a severe unresolved-deposit complaint, and HomeAdvisor's page for the company is flagged as under review. If you go ahead, keep your money behind the work: tie payments to completed milestones instead of a large deposit, get the permit applications and their filing dates in writing, and put start and completion dates in the contract along with what happens if they slip.
It has now been over three years since Bruno of X-Tend has scammed me. I have received a court judgment in my favor, and have even received a Write of Execution that the Sheriff's Office has tried to enforce, but Bruno still lies and delays and lies and will not pay back the money he took (over $10,000) without ever completing the job after taking the deck apart. He lied about needing more supplies, and never even started the rebuilding. Stay away. He is a crook, who has a court judgment against him.

Xtend contracting is my "go to" team for my house painting, repair and remodeling projects. I am a repeat customer for many years including painting, various repair projects, and room remodeling. The Xtend team is experienced, highly capable, honest, and well-connected in the local industry. I highly recommend working with them!
Bruno and his team were so easy to work with. They built us a beautiful deck and the whole experience was extremely smooth. They are especially strong communicators with quick responses - we always knew the status of the project and all of his team were very courteous. Would highly recommend! Bruno was very polite
Bruno will take your money and then do nothing for months. He will not apply for permits, and he will tell you your town/city is the problem. He will blame every delay or broken promise on circumstances outside of his own control. During that time, he will use your money to finish his other projects or (probably) pay his other bills. If you ask for your money back, he will tell you he has bought materials but never provide any proof. If you call Bruno out for his poor performance, he will gaslight you and again blame everyone but himself, including you. I decided to work with Bruno despite a few bad reviews. I figured everyone makes mistakes. But when Bruno makes them, he will not make them right. The only reason I have not pursued a lawsuit against him is that lawyers cost money and Bruno has a history of not paying the settlements against him. Maybe Bruno has improved his business practices in the year since we last interacted, but I wouldn't bet on it. Neither should you.
