A & D Sewer & Drain's website lists a service area of Springfield, West Springfield, Agawam, Holyoke, Northampton, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Palmer, Amherst, South Hadley, Hadley, Southwick, Granby, Monson and Greenfield. The company says it has been in business 20 years and offers 24/7 emergency service. It holds 3.3 stars from 18 ratings on Google and an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau. A 2022 customer wrote that Don Roberts of A & D dug out an old city sewer drain line made of Orangeburgh pipe, and that they dug some 8-9' down to the base of the cellar wall and created a 70' ditch to the city hook-up. That 2022 customer said Don's quotes were more realistic and down to earth. A 2026 customer in a Chicopee condo complex, where the company has the contract for repairs, said Don's team replaced a small section of old galvanized pipe in the basement that was causing water backups in the kitchen sink. That 2026 customer said the technician, Darren, explained the process and did a good job cleaning up, and named scheduling as the one complaint: the job required two visits due to the concrete work. A recent customer says they were not clearly told that the entire sewer line would need to be replaced rather than a localized issue addressed, and that less than two years later they needed approximately 32 feet of sewer line fully replaced. That customer also says the owner showed a lack of compassion and understanding when they reached out. A recent customer whose sewer line the company dug and replaced says the replaced part of the pipe is completely invaded by roots two years later, and that the work came with a 1 year warranty. A 2024 customer said A&D had been responsive and helpful for drain cleaning, but described incorrect grading and backwards and wrong fittings on indoor plumbing, and said the company never showed up when called to look at it.
If we could give negative stars, we would. This was more than a disappointing experience. When we originally had work done on our sewer line, we were not clearly informed that the entire line would need to be replaced rather than just addressing a localized issue. At the time, we were led to believe the problem was isolated, and were told there was an issue in the street but not to worry about it. Less than two years later, we ended up needing approximately 32 feet of sewer line fully replaced, which was extremely frustrating and costly given what we were initially told. We later learned that patching a localized sewer issue can compromise the integrity of the line, something we feel was not properly explained to us upfront. When we reached out every time, there was a lack of compassion and understanding from the owner despite how stressful the situation was for our household. Communication felt dismissive rather than helpful or solution-focused. Overall, based on our experience, we would not recommend this company. If you are looking for a trustworthy and transparent provider, we would suggest going elsewhere.
Got my sewer line dug and replaced by them 2 years ago only to have the same issue roots invading had the city come camera it and its 10 times worse. The part of the pipe they replaced is completely invaded. And they only fave me a 1 year warranty on it
I'm in a condo complex (Doverbrook / Chicopee) so I'm very familiar with Don and his team; they have the contract for repairs. The condos were built in the late 50's, so there are occasional plumbing issues. I've always been satisfied with the services provided. I recently had his team replace a small section of old galvanized pipe in my basement that was rusting out, severely corroded and partially blocked resulting in water backups in my kitchen sink. The technician (Darren) was knowledgeable and professional. He explained process and did a good job cleaning up too. My only complaint was scheduling and getting the job completed. I missed some work, and the job required two visits due to the concrete work. Other than that, I am very satisfied.
A&D has been responsive and helpful for drain cleaning. I would use them again for that and sewer lines outside the house, but for indoor major plumbing work, look elsewhere for work done right that will pass inspection. Attached show incorrect grading, backwards and wrong fittings for indoor plumbing. Called them to have a look at what could be done, was even willing to pay to fix it, and they never showed up.
Don and his crew showed up on 09/08/2021 and put in a very long day. Don Roberts of A & D had dug out my old city sewer drain line made of Orangeburgh pipe (1950/60 PVC of it's day). The task was on a huge scale. They dug some 8-9' down to the base of my cellar wall created a 70' ditch to the city hook-up. Did I happen to mention the huge boulders that was in my yard! When they where done their bucket loader did not look so shinny and new. I believe in paying for work well done. A lot of companies throw a huge number at you and hope it sticks. Don quotes where more realistic and down to earth. I would highly recommend this company based on my experience.
