Two different companies show up in A.W. Puma's history, and which one you get seems to track the size of the job. The short work reads well. Through 2025, customers described a water heater swapped out with a quick turnaround, a dripping faucet and garbage disposal fixed, a crumbling twenty-year-old deck rebuilt, a front portico redone, a house resided. Those jobs finish, and the people who hired them say so plainly. The large remodels are where it comes apart. A homeowner writing in June 2025 said the roof was removed and the project then stalled and was left unfinished, leaving the house open to the weather until the town deemed it uninhabitable. In March 2025 another described a remodel hired more than four years earlier and running roughly three years past due, still short of an occupancy permit. A December 2024 customer contracted for a kitchen and three bathrooms, watched the September finish date pass with neither delivered, and hired someone else to finish. A July 2024 client said the job ran ten months before the company was fired. On the Better Business Bureau page, one reviewer wrote that the company "abandons projects midway (maybe for more lucrative ones) without completing them." Two facts sit behind those accounts. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration — number 177600, the same one shown on its Houzz profile — is expired in the state registry, where the holder of record is A.W. Puma Construction & Remodeling, LLC. And the Better Business Bureau grades the business F, attributing that grade to three complaints on file and a failure to respond to two of them. The platform averages read softer — 4.6 across 42 Google ratings, 4.4 across 37 on Houzz — but both reviews posted in the last six months are 1-star: a May 2026 customer describing cracked tile, work that was not square and plumbing that leaked at every joint, and a March 2026 customer whose furnace circuit board was never ordered through three cancelled appointments. The restoration side draws the steadiest praise. A 2024 client credited the crew with handling a tree through the roof cleanly; a 2023 client hired them to take over renovations another contractor had abandoned; a 2022 family had an ADA bathroom built so a relative could stay in her home. For a leak, a heater, a deck or siding, the recent history is largely on your side. For a whole-house remodel, treat the unfinished-project accounts as the main question: check the registration status yourself before signing, get a written completion date with consequences attached, and ask for two jobs they finished in the last year that you can go look at.
