A furnace, air conditioner and thermostat were all part of the installation one A1/AC customer praised in a 2018 Google review. The workers also reused the old furnace’s humidifier and fixed a basement door that had already been broken. That reviewer was pleased with both the equipment and the price. A1 / AC Heating & Cooling is based in Agawam and describes itself as locally owned and operated, serving Hampden County. Its written reviews run from 2011 to 2026. In a 2016 Angi account, a customer described Mark working alongside his crew throughout an installation, including the gas lines. The customer said Mark added three returns because the existing return was too noisy, and reported lower operating costs and no problems with the installed system. A 2017 reviewer praised clean, efficient removal and replacement of equipment, saying the new American Standard units ran more quietly than the old ones. A September 2011 Angi review described a two-day heating and air-conditioning replacement that finished as promised. The customer also had a thermostat moved and a carbon-monoxide alarm, dehumidifier and water heater installed. They said the crew removed the old equipment, cleaned the work area and handled rebate paperwork; payment was requested only after completion and the customer’s approval. In November 2021, another Angi reviewer praised Mark’s availability for questions and described a new furnace installed when they added onto their house. More recent complaints deserve attention. A June 2026 Google reviewer said A1/AC had installed a unit the previous year but repeatedly failed to return calls afterward, prompting the customer to use another company. In an April 2025 review about a 2018 winter service call, another customer said a technician replaced a thermostat in less than ten minutes and charged $181.62. The reviewer objected to receiving the bill without a quote or warning. A1/AC advertises free estimates and says it is insured. Its BBB grade is A+, and Angi lists 5.0 stars from 15 ratings.
I wish this place would return calls, we went with a different company very good gives you a call back a1/ac put my unit in for me last year and this year every time we had call them Never got a return call so we had to go to someone else for business.
This happened way back in 2018, but I found the receipt and thought, wow. I called A1AC in the middle of winter because my heat stopped working. I was a struggling student at the time and didn’t have a lot of options. The technician showed up, quickly determined it was a bad thermostat, and swapped it out with a basic model. He was in and out in less than 10 minutes—but charged me $181.62 ($58 for the part, $120 for labor, plus tax). The receipt says he “inspected the furnace,” but what was there to inspect? It was just a dead thermostat—probably dead batteries. No quote, no warning, just a bill. My advice to others: Ask for a written estimate before any work starts Check thermostat batteries first A 10-minute fix shouldn’t cost almost $200 Always get a second opinion, especially if you're on a tight budget I’m leaving this review so others don’t get taken advantage of like I did.
Mark was excellent in getting the job done and also was available to answer any questions and concerns we had. He was always there when called upon. We also had him install a new furnace when we did an addition on our house. He really goes above and beyond for customer service.
I had to have a yearly service on my unit
Marc went above and beyond great service
