Abide is an East Longmeadow environmental contractor — asbestos abatement, deleading, mold, vermiculite and PCB removal — working for homeowners, property managers and commercial clients across western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, and rebuilding what a remediation job opens up. Its BBB file puts the start at January 1992; the company's own site says 35 years in the trade. The credentials are the checkable kind. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #128765, is active on the state registry, and the state Supplier Diversity Office certifies the company as a Minority Business Enterprise. The BBB file is an A+ and also lists CS-071771 with the Department of Public Safety and LW 000681 with that department's Special Licensing Section. One enforcement matter belongs on the call. WWLP reported in February 2021 that MassDEP fined Abide $26,100 for asbestos violations that occurred during asbestos abatement activities. Ask how air monitoring and containment are documented on your job, and who signs the clearance at the end. For a house with asbestos, old lead paint or a mold problem — especially one where you want the same outfit to put the rooms back together afterwards — they cover that whole arc. Price the abatement and the restoration separately in writing, and ask for the clearance protocol before the crew sets up.
