Abide, LLC

Abide works out of 483 Shaker Road in East Longmeadow, with a second office at 800 Marshall Phelps Rd in Windsor, Connecticut, and takes environmental hazards out of buildings: asbestos abatement, lead paint removal and deleading, mold remediation, vermiculite and PCB removal, plus the general contracting to rebuild afterwards. It works for homeowners, property managers and commercial clients across western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, and the same operation appears on record as Abide, Inc. and under the alternate name Abide Environmental Contracting. It is an old firm by trade standards. The Better Business Bureau files it as started and incorporated in January 1992 — 34 years — and the company itself claims 35 years in the business. The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs registry confirms Home Improvement Contractor registration 128765 as active, held in the name Abide, LLC. There is one serious thing on the record and it belongs in front of anyone considering them. In February 2021 the Springfield television station WWLP reported that the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection had fined Abide, Inc. of East Longmeadow $26,100 for asbestos violations during abatement work at a commercial property at 320 Riverside Drive in Northampton; MassDEP inspectors who arrived unannounced in December 2019 found the work area had not been completely isolated and that HEPA filtration was not being operated properly. Those are exactly the containment controls that keep asbestos fibres out of the rest of a building. Against that, no customer reviews or ratings turned up anywhere — not on the directories, not on the review platforms — so there is nothing from people who actually hired them to weigh alongside it. The BBB file carries an A+ grade, though the company is not BBB accredited. Anyone hiring them for asbestos or lead work should ask directly about the 2019 MassDEP findings and what changed afterwards, ask to see the containment and air-monitoring plan in writing before work starts, and ask who does the clearance testing. The registry-confirmed registration and the 34-year history are real; the enforcement record is real too, and both should be on the table.
