About-Face Kitchens is a cabinet shop on Walnut Street in Peabody, and the person customers describe dealing with is Ray, the owner. A couple writing on Angi in 2012 described sitting with him while he mocked their piece up on his computer and pulled wood samples, designs and hardware from the showroom, so they knew what they were getting before anything was cut. Cabinetry is the trade: kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, built-ins, libraries, home-theater millwork, freestanding furniture for a home or office, and refacing when the boxes underneath are still sound. Countertops come with it — laminate, granite and solid surface — and Angi's listing says the company will coordinate the other trades when a cabinetry job grows into a whole-kitchen project. The BBB puts the company at 41 years in business; Angi and HomeAdvisor say 42. The written accounts are dated. The newest is from August 2013 and they run back to 2003, so read them as history rather than as this year's work. That 2013 customer had planned the pull-out drawers down to their exact heights, so cans and bottles would fit where they wanted them, and chose a high-gloss white finish they called simply beautiful. A customer writing in July 2012 said the owner spotted issues other companies had never raised, and that the crew's installation work was done well. Five ratings on Angi and five on HomeAdvisor are all 5 stars, and the Better Business Bureau grade is A+. This is a shop for the homeowner who wants cabinetry drawn, built and fitted to a specific plan and likes dealing with the owner directly rather than a salesperson. Because the public accounts stop in 2013, ask to see kitchens finished in the last year or two, and walk the Walnut Street showroom before you put money down.

We met with Ray a number of time to go over exact cabinet details as well as finishes. We elected a high-gloss white that is simply beautiful. What we did ahead of time is decide exactly how many pull out draws we wanted and there exact heights so things like cans, bottles, etc. would fit in cabinets in the location we wanted. The install went perfect and they had to move in some large pieces through the rear sliding door. Nothing got dinged (nothing!) The cabinets fit like a glove. They leveled every piece exactly. They scribed each piece to fit exact. The fridge fits with about 1/8" clearance which is the tolerance we needed for the manufacture's trim kit. The stove fit just as well. We opted for the soft close drawers glides which are just great. I just give them a push and the close feather soft.. Look around but definitely get a quote from Ray. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised with his prices. His design skills are a great asset and as he knows exactly what he is building and there are no surprises. It is not often you can get a soups to nuts solution where there is never any finger pointing.but here is the rare case.

We couldn't have been happier with the work that was performed by About Face Kitchens. The owner was very knowledgable and came up with some suggestions and found some other issues that other companies never even saw or mentioned to us. The workers did excellent work and were very professional and finished the job pretty quickly. I would highly suggest this company whether you are doing a refacing job or having new cabinets built. We just happened to have cabinets that were perfect for refacing but we would have used them even if we were going completely new. We had one new cabinet built and it came out beautiful. In our opinion our money was more than well spent. We are having other work done as part of this project but this review is for About Face Kitchens only.
We met and discussed different approaches to the cabinet with Ray mocking things up on his PC, and also showing us samples of wood, designs, and hardware in his showroom. The end result was that we were comfortable that we had arrived at what we were after in the finished piece. The planning and construction stages took a while, but we weren't in a hurry. Once the piece was built in the shop, two of Ray's carpenters brought the disassembled cabinet to the house and installed it in a few hours. They had to face some challenges from less than square walls and floor, but the end result was very pleasing to the eye.I would definitely recommend About Face Kitchens as a cabinetry shop. Ray was a pleasure to work with, and his technical crew did a fine job with the installation.
