Ace Building and Remodeling is a small, one-person-run outfit built around owner Sam Churchill, working kitchen and bathroom remodels, basement finishes, decks, additions and handyman jobs out of Merrimac and Saugus. The company incorporated in 2021, and its Better Business Bureau file — opened in 2025, not accredited — carries an A+ grade, though the Bureau notes it's based on how long the business has operated rather than on a customer record. That customer record, once you look past the BBB page, is where this company actually shows itself: five Thumbtack reviews from late 2024 through 2025, all five stars, describe the same pattern — a homeowner frustrated with other contractors' unreliability who found Sam responsive, clear about scope and price, and fast. A 2025 review credits him with finishing a basement to the homeowner's own vision, explaining the reasoning behind each step and subcontracting only plastering and electrical while staying on-site those days too. Two other 2025 reviews cover full bathroom remodels finished on schedule and, in one case, better than the customer imagined; another calls his carpentry "excellent" after hiring him for a smaller home project. One thing worth confirming directly: no license number appears on any of the profiles reviewed, and the business's address is listed three different ways across sources — Merrimac on its own site, Saugus on the BBB, Melrose on Thumbtack — so it's worth nailing down where the company is actually based and licensed before signing anything.

Sam was a pleasure to work with. He did a great job of understanding the scope of the project and was able to complete the project quickly for a fair price.
We had an excellent experience working with Sam for the project of finishing our basement. Sam came by for the estimate, saw the vision that we wanted to create and was willing and eager to work with us along the way to completion - always able to explain why he would be doing things a certain way or in a certain order. He only subcontracted out plastering and electrical, but was onsite for those days too. He was professional and got the work done on schedule. Our biggest concern of going through Thumbtack, as opposed to a reference from a personal friend, was whether we would get high quality work… we are happy to report that the finished product is even better than we had initially hoped for and it was a pleasure to work with Sam throughout the process! We would definitely work with Sam again for any future projects.
We had a great experience from Sam- quick response, a visit and reasonable quote within days, and work was completed very well and in a timely way. Communication was easy and he was always professional. Our bathroom looks great!
We worked with Sam for our bathroom remodel, and 10/10 recommend him! He is responsive, timely, and he’s great at what he does. The finished product turned out better than we could have imagined. We are already planning to work with him on another project.
Today it seems harder and harder to hire a reliable contractor for small home projects. After speaking to a number of contractors I hired Sam. He is reliable, dependable and easy to deal with. His carpentry skills are excellent, he did a terrific job and exceeded my expectations. He is willing to take on other tasks other than carpentry such as painting, tile work, etc. I will not hesitate to recommend him to my family and friends. I can’t say enough about Sam and will definitely call on him in the future.
