A July 2026 commenter posted the company's number and called Dave and his crew local and dependable, and in 2024 another said they had worked with Dave for years and that the company had done a great job on all their projects. The company covers Somerville for HVAC service calls and new ducted or ductless installs. BBB, which grades it A+ as a non-accredited business, lists 25 years in business across heating, cooling, duct work, ventilation and indoor air quality; BuildZoom's listing adds sheet metal work, boilers and water heaters, and gas and piping. The written reviews are older, and they split. In a 2015 review a homeowner said Alewife Air came in as the most reasonable of four bids and left very neat work, and that many friends had remarked on how nice the furnace installation was. A 2014 reviewer was blunter, calling them the most honest HVAC people they had dealt with. The one to ask about also dates from 2015: a customer who spent $8,400 on a complete system wrote that the job was never finished, that corners were cut and the contract not followed, that Dave became rude and unprofessional, and that they hired another contractor to fix the system. It is a decade-old account, but it is specific, and it is about the same person the Reddit threads name. For a Somerville mini-split, a furnace replacement or a service call, this is a reasonable outfit to get a bid from — the neighborhood recommendations are current. Before signing, get the full scope and the specific equipment written into the contract, and settle up front what happens if the install runs past the date you were promised.
