The Melrose company, owned by Thomas Anderson, works the structural end of residential renovation: a 2019 rough-frame repair with sistered joists, new stud walls and a steel support beam; a 2021 basement where brick piers came out and steel lally columns went in on new foundations; a 2022 unit gut carrying a new load-bearing LVL beam along with thirteen new windows. The larger jobs are whole-room and whole-unit work. A $125,000 full gut of a two-bedroom condo in 2018 took in new subfloor and finished floors, framed openings, kitchen and bathroom. A $71,500 kitchen gut followed in 2021, a $63,550 bathroom gut in 2020 that also replaced a porch wall and a living-room ceiling, and a $32,950 rebuild of front and rear porches on new foundations. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in the company's own name. The word of mouth needs reading carefully. Three of the four Reddit references trace to the same person — a plumbing and heating contractor who says he has worked extensively with Tom Anderson on renovation projects. On r/ArlingtonMA in November 2025 he recommended him for structural work in older homes and said Anderson had done exactly that job in his own basement; on r/Somerville in October 2025 he named him among the high-end remodelers he works alongside. That is a trade referral from someone in the same job pipeline, not a homeowner reporting on their own kitchen. In a December 2025 comment he added that Anderson does higher-end work and is usually booked several months out, pointing readers elsewhere for smaller, more cheaply scheduled projects. The one arm's-length comment, r/Somerville in April 2025, is a single line: they do good work in the area. So the picture is a licensed structural remodeler with a documented Somerville permit history and no homeowner accounts, good or bad, anywhere on file. Ask for references from jobs finished this year, expect to wait for a slot, and get any structural scope priced in writing before committing.
