Geoffrey Shafer founded Pegasus Design-To-Build in Melrose in 2001, starting out of his basement after a career in IT; the firm added in-house design in 2003 and bought its Main Street building and showroom in 2018. It's now a design-build remodeler working on kitchens, additions, primary bathrooms, and ADUs across the northern Greater Boston suburbs, holding an active Massachusetts home-improvement contractor license. As of an April 2026 review, a full renovation combined a gut remodel of one and a half bathrooms, added head space to a cramped staircase, and refinished hardwood flooring throughout the home. Reviews repeatedly credit designer Jenna for turning a client's vision into a finished kitchen or addition, and describe an in-house team that carries a project from architectural drawings through 3D walkthroughs to construction. Jobs described range from full kitchen tear-downs that move an exterior wall and rebuild a deck to a first-floor primary bedroom addition with a walk-in closet, bathroom, and pantry. One customer who was originally nervous about a major renovation, having heard bad experiences from family members, said Pegasus guided them through the whole process. On Reddit, one commenter said the company is worth using but recommended booking early, since their schedule fills up. A 2021 review described a less positive start: after a good initial impression, the customer said the estimate process turned out more costly than expected once the design phase was underway. A 2020 Angi review rated the overall job well but specifically called out the kitchen painting as poor quality. For a full kitchen, addition, or whole-home remodel in the towns north of Boston, Pegasus has decades of specific work and design awards to point to, including a 2007 EM-NARI Gold award for a bathroom project; given the one review about design-phase costs, it's worth getting a clear, itemized breakdown of design fees before committing.
“Pegasus Design & Build is nice but you gotta on their schedule early.”
I give PEGASUS my highest recommendation. Our project comprised several different elements that took our home to a whole new level of comfort and good looks, including gut remodel of 1.5 baths, adding head space to a cramped staircase, new hardwood flooring and refinishing existing floors, expanding a closet, improving structural supports in basement, vinyl siding, and adding a decorative roof line to front of house for visual interest. We've lived in our "new" house several months now and could not be happier with the results. Geoff (owner), Jenna (designer), Mike (PM), and the rest of the PEGASUS staff were fantastic to work with. We place a high value on working with professionals who are knowledgeable and organized because my husband and I know we don't have the bandwidth to deal with contractors and subs ourselves. If you are getting multiple quotes (which you should), PEGASUS will not be the cheapest, but the value is real. The finished product speaks for itself. When we started talking with Geoff about the project, he was very up front about what he thought it would cost and how long it would take to complete. The statement of work was thorough, and we had no unplanned costs during the project. We had to be out of the house for some of the work and are so thankful that everything was done on time, saving us from paying additional rent. Mike was instrumental in making the whole project, ensuring the work was done right and completed on time. He provided daily updates, and we had zero anxiety. Jenna helped us see the potential in our house and had lots of ideas on how to make our small space function better and look better. We started off considering an addition, which Jenna drew plans for, and then she worked with us to iterate until we reached a plan to renovate within our existing footprint. I wouldn't hesitate to work with PEGASUS again in the future.
They did excellent work for us in a redone basement and bathrooms ~4 years ago. Still holding up brilliantly!
Pegasus did a first floor addition to our home which included a primary bedroom, spacious closet, three piece bathroom, and pantry space. I cannot say enough positive things about working with this company! They made our vision come to life (thanks Jenna!) in a tight space. Start to finish everyone we interacted with was personable, highly skilled, and responsive. The project was completed on budget and quicker than the initial time projection. We lived in the home with two toddlers and a dog during the construction (while also working from home) and it was truly minimally disruptive to our daily routines. We received daily emails on the progress of the work which was so helpful (Mike is the best!). The space is gorgeous and makes me feel like I'm living in a fancy hotel. They are the best contractors I have ever worked with! I would highly recommend them!
Pegasus was awesome. Their communication was prompt and pleasant, we loved working with them. Our kitchen came together beautifully and they planned a beautiful space for us to live in!! Jenna is both an artist and a genius. We loved her design!
We absolutely loved every step of the home renovation process with Pegasus. We had our kitchen redone, and they had great ideas on layout and materials. They were extremely organized and communicative, and every member of their staff that we interacted with was professional and wonderful to work with. And we love our new kitchen. We would gladly seek them out for future work, and highly recommend them.
