AOA Moving Services is a Boston-area mover with a genuinely split record — strong, detailed praise sits alongside real, specific complaints, and a homeowner needs both halves of that picture. The company's own site says it was founded in 2020 and has since been acquired by Continental Moving Company, which the site says now runs all AOA operations — worth asking about directly, since it may mean the team handling a move today isn't the same one behind the older reviews. Better Business Bureau does not accredit the company and gives it an F, citing five complaints on file, three of which went unanswered. On the positive side, the record runs deep: reviewers across Google, Thumbtack and Angi describe movers who wrapped furniture carefully, disassembled and reassembled bed frames, hauled heavy pieces up multiple flights of stairs, and handled long-distance moves to Washington DC without incident. In a 2024 review, a customer described a difficult move — one building elevator out of service, the unit 100 yards from the working one — where the crew stayed positive and professional throughout despite the extra work. Thumbtack currently shows a 4.6★ average across 105 reviews and named the company a Top Pro in both 2022 and 2023. The complaints are just as specific, though, and several are serious. In a 2024 Angi review, a customer described being quoted $413 for a move that ended up costing more than agreed, calling the company dishonest about pricing. In a separate 2024 review, a customer said a damaged flat-screen TV went unresolved for six weeks — the company asked for photos and the model number, then stopped responding entirely. Angi's own summary of the negative reviews on file also describes a billing dispute that escalated to police being called at a job — a detail that doesn't appear in any of the reviews quoted here but is significant enough to raise directly before booking. A different 2024 review described a crew arriving three hours after a promised four-hour window, working slowly, and eventually being sent home at midnight with the move finished by the customer the next day. Given how far apart the good and bad experiences are, this isn't a business to book on reputation alone — get a written, itemized quote before the move, confirm who specifically is running the crew (AOA directly or its new parent company), and ask pointedly about how billing disputes and damage claims get resolved.
These movers did not assemble my dresser or even remove it from the shrinkwrap/moving blankets, and more importantly, they put the screws from the dresser legs somewhere where I can't find them. I have the dresser, legs, and no screws as they didn't tape them to the dresser or anything, and I have no idea where they are. I also don't own power tools so I can't assemble them myself to begin with. It's also worth mentioning that they were an hour and a half late to the estimated time given to me, kept packing things that didn't belong to me even though I asked them to only pack the things I point out and not the rest. When I brought attention to this, I was treated as if I were being rude, which I wasn't, I just didn't want my roommate's stuff packed with mine. They cut their stay with me short and told me they had to leave, saying they were 6 hours late for another appointment. I'd really appreciate a partial rebate as I don't think the service I received was worth what I paid for it.
AOA did an excellent job with our move. They were very accommodating when we had to move our date multiple times. Movers showed up on time and were very professional, moved our items with care, and were tidy. Excellent movers at a reasonable price!
Don't hire them they lie and overcharge . I hired them on 11/6/24 to move a one bedroom apartment from Milford to Beverly. I had stated in a text when receiving my estimate that I had two beds, dresser, chest, mirror, nightstand, small tv, tv stand , 5 stools, 2 accent chairs and bags and suitcases . I was quoted a price of 413.00 for 2 hours moving and 1hour and 27 mins travel time. They should up early and started loading the truck at 11:39 they finish packing at 1:30 . They told me that I will see them later. I had to Uber to Beverly which means I left after them at 2:22 and arrived in Beverly at 3:58. I informed the property manager that the movers would be arriving. I called the moving company at 4:03 looking for them . Long story short they wanted to charge me for seven hour of work which was 1,000 instead of 4. I called the police on them because they started recording my apartment and refused to speak to the manger outside of the apartment. Then they sat in front of my building for two hours after the police told them to leave and called me several times asking for payment. When the police instructed them to bill me after they got the facts together . I forgot to add this This business is not BBB accredited.
