Archia is a custom design/build firm founded by Peter Stames, with a Duxbury base and projects across southeastern Massachusetts, New England, and as far as Florida. Its own site lists fine homes, additions, major renovations, gourmet kitchens, historic restorations, and timber frames; Houzz and BuildZoom also list roofing and other remodeling trades.
In a 2021 Houzz review, a homeowner described a crew arriving within hours after a tree damaged the home’s roof, temporarily patching it, then handling permanent interior and exterior repairs over the following weeks. A 2023 reviewer described Peter redesigning a home’s second floor after a tree struck it. Houzz lists 51 ratings averaging 5.0, but the two available review accounts are dated 2021 and 2023; Google separately shows one 1-star rating. Ask about recent, comparable roofing projects and who handles emergency mitigation.
License listings warrant a direct check before work begins. BuildZoom reports Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license #172315 active when checked in August 2026, and also lists two Newton license records, #68331, as inactive with a note that the status was at one point cancelled; Houzz lists #068331. The company’s founding date also differs across profiles: its website says 1989, while BBB and Houzz report 1995. Confirm which license applies to the planned work and verify the company history directly.

We needed Pete to design a remodel after a tree landed on our house during a storm. He did an amazing job designing a beautiful home working with our existing first floor and creating the layout and space we needed on the second floor. We highly recommend Pete for any design/build needs!
During a late October 2021 storm, the crown of a very large oak tree fell on the roof of our home, causing substantial exterior roof and trim/fascia damage, as well as penetrating the interior ceiling, thereby allowing in rain. Within a few hours after contacting Archia the next day, they sent a crew to temporarily patch the roof and remove the dislodged interior beam that was hanging from the coffered ceiling (thereby preventing further damage). Over the next few weeks, Archia handled all of the permanent exterior and interior repairs. All this was done on a very timely, high quality and cost-effective basis, despite the general shortages of building materials and tradespersons.
