Archia Homes is a Duxbury design/build firm working the top end of the South Shore market — luxury new homes, large additions, gourmet kitchens, historic restorations and timber-frame work across Greater Boston, the South Shore and Nantucket. Peter Stames runs it; the Better Business Bureau records the legal entity as Archia, Inc. doing business as Archia Homes, with Stames as principal and nine employees, and grades it A+ without accreditation. The design half is what customers keep describing, and they describe it in the same terms. A homeowner whose 200-year-old Scituate Harbor cottage was reimagined in 2020 credits Stames and Heidi Petrowicz with handling the nuances an antique house brings. A 2022 reviewer with an "itty-bitty depression-era farmhouse" and an aggressive budget describes the addition and renovation that came out of it. A 2022 kitchen expansion is remembered for exposed reclaimed beams, a gas fireplace and a shiplap ceiling. Two separate accounts, from 2021 and 2023, are about storm damage: an oak crown through the roof in October 2021, with the firm on site within hours of the call the next day, and a tree landing on a house that then became a full second-floor redesign. The awards are unusually concrete for this trade. The firm holds Chrysalis Awards for Best Kitchen over $100,000 nationally and Best Addition over $250,000 in 2012, and Whole House Remodel over $1 Million in 2011, plus a Bronze A' Design Award. Houzz shows 5.0 from 51 ratings with 34 posted projects in Duxbury, Milton, Plymouth and Marshfield, and a typical job cost from $100,000 to $6 million. BuildZoom verified home improvement contractor registration 172315 as active, issued 7 July 2026, and scores the firm in the top 6% of Massachusetts contractors. Two things to know. The written record is dated: twelve reviews, all between 2020 and 2023, with nothing since. And the firm's own founding year differs by source — its website says 1989, its Houzz About says 1995, and BBB records a 1 September 1995 start with incorporation in 2002. This is a firm for a large, design-led project rather than a small repair, and the price band on Houzz says so plainly. Ask for two or three references from the last two years, and settle which entity — Archia, Inc. — is signing the contract.
“Peter helped us with all phases of our remodeling project from the creative design, to picking out”
“Intent on converting their third-floor, rough attic space into a master bedroom suite, homeowners in Milton, Massachusetts, perused Houzz for the appropriate design-build company. They sought to work collaboratively toward a specific budget as opposed to hiring an architect and sourcing a contractor. After reviewing portfolios, they reached out to Archia Homes to discuss their project.”
“## Archia Homes Duxbury, Mass. archiahomes.com ... 011 ... Designer: Peter Stames Project location: Milton, Mass. Square footage before: 2,900 Square footage after: 3,100 Project cost: $327,000 ... This addition and renovation were focused on the conversion of a third-floor, rough attic space into a master bedroom suite. The clients wanted to take a dusty space that wasn’t well-utilized and turn it into one of the home’s greatest and most-utilized features. ... Enlarging the space was done by adding various small additions where feasible, reframing walls and widening hallways to create an open”

We needed Pete to design a remodel after a tree landed on our house during a storm. He did an amazing job designing a beautiful home working with our existing first floor and creating the layout and space we needed on the second floor. We highly recommend Pete for any design/build needs!
Truly professional experience from everyone we had dealt with, from top to bottom. Everyone was friendly, upbeat, insightful, and responsive. Very satisfied with the end result. Highly recommend Archia Homes!
When I enlisted Peter to design the addition and major renovation of my itty-bitty depression-era farmhouse, I knew it was going to be a tall order to turn the tiny, chopped up, shanty into someplace I could feel at home. In addition to that, my budget was fairly aggressive and I needed to do the renovations in two phases to facilitate living in my home through the whole process. What should have been a nightmare was a really fun process with Peter and his team of professionals. Peter gave me several iterations which I was able to view in three dimensions and make changes, all while keeping my budget in mind. Peter listened and incorporated my desires while giving me expert advice on how I could improve flow, layout and aesthetic. The resulting drawings are of an antique farmhouse with a modern fusion that i can build in my budget. The process was fun and simple from start to finish and was exactly how a design/build project should be approached.
Archia Homes worked with us to renovate and expand our kitchen. The team listened to our ideas and helped bring that vision to life. Details like exposed reclaimed beams, a gas fireplace, and shiplap ceiling brought character to the space; without their expertise and high end finishes, we never could have accomplished this final product. The team and their subcontractors were pleasant to work with. They use a helpful app to keep communication open and details organized. We would recommend Archia Homes for your project.
During a late October 2021 storm, the crown of a very large oak tree fell on the roof of our home, causing substantial exterior roof and trim/fascia damage, as well as penetrating the interior ceiling, thereby allowing in rain. Within a few hours after contacting Archia the next day, they sent a crew to temporarily patch the roof and remove the dislodged interior beam that was hanging from the coffered ceiling (thereby preventing further damage). Over the next few weeks, Archia handled all of the permanent exterior and interior repairs. All this was done on a very timely, high quality and cost-effective basis, despite the general shortages of building materials and tradespersons. Heidi, Peter and Eli were excellent and we are very grateful. Thank you! Henry & Thalia
