A one-person LLC trading since 2007 — and, according to BuildZoom, one whose Massachusetts contractor registration has lapsed. ARO Home Improvement is run by Tony Oliveira, listed variously as Anthony, Anthony R and Antonio Oliveira, and it works the Merrimack Valley from a base that four sources place four different ways: BBB and BuildZoom put it in Dracut on two separate streets, Houzz puts it on Comet Rd in Methuen, Angi lists B Street in Lowell. One phone number, (978) 876-1797, runs through all four, and that is what ties them together. The declared reach runs from Lowell and Lawrence out to Haverhill and Andover and across the border into the southern New Hampshire towns of Salem, Pelham, Plaistow and Windham. Se habla español. The work spans kitchens, bathrooms and basements, flooring in wood, laminate and tile, countertops and cabinets, trim carpentry, and interior and exterior painting. BBB grades the business A+ while stating plainly that it is not BBB-accredited — two separate facts, not one. What customers have written is old. Angi holds eleven reviews averaging 3.9, and the most recent was written in August 2010; nothing has been posted since. That average is not uniform praise either: alongside the four- and five-star accounts sit one one-star and two three-stars, and the low ones turn on scheduling and follow-through rather than on skill. The owner replies publicly to reviews, and at least one of those replies argues with the customer instead of answering the complaint. The registration is what to settle before any money changes hands. BuildZoom lists a general contractor licence, number 209303, expiring 27 July 2025, and says it last checked in March 2026 and found it expired. It also lists two different home improvement contractor numbers — 209303 and 163597 — both marked cancelled, and it scores the business 0 for the stated reason that it cannot find an active licence. None of that was confirmed against the state registry here. But in Massachusetts a current HIC registration is what gives a homeowner access to the Guaranty Fund, and this mix of full kitchens, bathrooms and decks falls under none of the state's exemptions. Ask for the current registration number and check it yourself with the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. Ask for references from the last two years, because none are published. And put the schedule and the clean-up in writing.

We hired ARO to replace a laminate countertop and they did a nice job and were responsive. Based on that experience with them we decided to use them to reface the cabinet under the countertop. That was a big mistake. The contractor became very unresponsive, did not show up when he said he would, didn't call to tell us he would be late, etc. The work he did on the refacing was terrible. The laminate was cracked, the doors didn't open/close/fit properly and the drawers didn't work correctly either. After 4-6 weeks or so of going back and forth tying to get the job finished we ended up having to hire someone else to finish the job. (Service: Laminate Countertops - Install; cost stated $1,000)

good for the most part. A couple problems- we never discussed clean-up removal of old tiles/debris. So it's sitting in my garbage barrels in my driveway for me to remove. Also, might be a small leak under toilet and we have called ARO to look at and they haven't followed up. (Service: Tile: Ceramic and Porcelain - Install)
