Avatar Construction is a Watertown-based design-build general contractor the company says has been "building ideas into reality since 1999" — now more than 25 years, per its own site — handling commercial and mixed-use projects from $5M to $50M+ across Greater Boston and southern New Hampshire, alongside custom single-family homes. Nazar Vincent, its principal, and project manager Liu turn up by name across nearly every review. 23 Google reviews from 2021 through mid-2026 run almost entirely five stars (4.8★ overall, plus a 4.7★ from 11 Houzz ratings, with GAF and NAHB badges attached to its Houzz profile), and they read like repeat institutional clients rather than one-off homeowners — a medical facility, an urgent-care buildout, a 15-chair hair salon, multifamily and mixed-use construction. A 2023 review described a full renovation of an old three-family building in Brookline; a 2024 review detailed a 5-bedroom, 5,500-square-foot custom home finished on schedule on a difficult sloped Arlington lot. When a warranty issue came up on a newly built home, project manager Liu personally supervised the repair work and coordinated the trades to fix it. Two government matters are worth knowing before calling. The Massachusetts Attorney General sued Avatar Construction and Nazar Vincent in 2023 for underpaying workers on five municipal construction contracts, and the company paid the Commonwealth more than $320,000 in 2024 to resolve the allegations. Separately, a 2022 Belmont project owned by Vincent himself drew a town work-stoppage order over incorrect setbacks and story count, and the town ordered it rebuilt to the proper spec. Both matters appear resolved, and nothing in the customer review record points to similar issues on client projects. Avatar's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and verified. The reviews point to a shop set up for large, complex, multi-trade builds — the kind of project where a project manager stays engaged through the warranty period rather than a quick single-room job. Given the wage-theft settlement, it's worth asking directly how the company handles subcontractor payroll before signing a municipal or larger commercial contract.
“This isn't a nimby problem or an onerous zoning problem, this is a contractor problem. Avatar is a decent sized design/build contractor, both residential and commercial. They know permitting protocol and timelines for same. The property in question is owned by the principal of Avatar.”
“the company violated the Massachusetts False Claims Act (MFCA) in connection with prevailing wage theft when it and a subcontractor allegedly underpaid workers on five municipal construction projects in Cambridge, Lawrence, Saugus, and Watertown”
“Avatar Construction Paid Over $320,000 to Commonwealth to Resolve Allegations of False Claims and Prevailing Wage Theft”
“her office has filed suit against Avatar Construction Corp. of Watertown and its owner, Nazar Vincent, for violating the Massachusetts False Claims Act by underpaying workers in five municipal construction contracts for which it was the prime contractor”
“Nazar Vincent with Avatar Construction was issued a work stoppage order back in May after the building inspector noticed the incorrect setbacks and number of stories for the home at 231 Orchard St.”
I’ve partnered with Avatar Design and Construction for almost a decade on a range of commercial projects — multifamily housing, medical offices, daycare facilities, and warehouses. They excel in design-build delivery and consistently manage risk and cost through a well-run Guaranteed Maximum Price model. Throughout our relationship they’ve demonstrated outstanding project management, clear communication, and practical problem-solving on complex schedules and tight budgets. Their workmanship and attention to detail are top-notch, and I’ve watched the firm grow exponentially while maintaining high standards. If you need a trusted design-build partner who delivers on time and on budget, I strongly recommend Avatar Design and Construction
After we had some plumbing issues occur just outside the 1 year warranty of our new construction home, Avatar helped us resolve the areas of concern. We were happy with the work completed and the assistance we received. The project manager we worked with, Liu, was very helpful, responsive, and pleasant to work with. We were very happy with Liu's communication and impressed with the seamlessness of the repair work completed.
We purchased a home that had been built by Avatar Construction, and after discovering some issues post-purchase, we needed warranty work done. Liu was assigned as our project manager, and he was a pleasure to work with. Liu was consistently responsive, professional, and took pride in his work. He coordinated handymen who delivered high-quality repair finish work, and helped us coordinate with third parties. He made a point of personally showing up to supervise each job, which felt nice and reassuring. It's good to know Avatar Construction sent someone like Liu to make things right.
Professional relationship with Avatar Construction! Lena and Nazar are a joy to work and partner with.
