Bach Woodcraft restores and rebuilds old wooden windows and shutters, and its website lists a service area of Eliot, Boston, Portsmouth and Exeter. It holds a 5-star Google rating from 3 ratings. A 2026 customer wrote that Kin rebuilt and reinstalled wooden shutters of selected mahogany on an 1835 townhouse, matching the existing shutters, and that they held up to seasonal storms. That 2026 customer said Kin then rebuilt their south-facing windows, which took 6 months to remove, restore and re-install, and that the windows now lock easily, move smoothly and seal completely. A 2026 customer said Kin replaced a 10-foot bay window within a bayed wall of a 200-year-old house, building the frame as one piece of mahogany to hold 40 individual panes of glass. A 2026 customer with almost 100-year-old double-hung windows that were barely operable and drafty wrote that they wanted to preserve the windows rather than replace them; Kin Schildbach did the work, and with added weather seals that customer said the windows perform better than the originals.
Our almost 100 year old double-hung windows were in sore need of attention as they were barely operable, drafty, and in questionable condition. We considered replacements but really wanted to work with and preserve the architectural quality and character of the existing windows. We found Bach Woodcraft through a trade website on recommendation and soon were off and running. Kin Schildbach brought his extensive expertise, craftsmanship, and experience to bear and the result is nothing short of remarkable. With added weather seals the windows perform better than the originals, are beautiful, and should last at least another 100 years!
Kin is a perfectionist, and we are glad he is. This project was not easy. He replaced a 10 foot bay window within a bayed wall. He built the frame as 1 piece of mahogany to hold 40 individual panes of glass. It's PERFECT and maintains the vintage of our 200 year old house. We will definitely hire Kin for our next renovation project, and we recommend him for yours!
When Kin rebuilt & reinstalled wooden shutters on an 1835 townhouse, he demonstrated his mastery of historic woodworking technique. Made from selected mahogany wood, the new shutters held up to seasonal storms while matching the design of the existing shutters. When we were ready, we asked Kin to rebuild south-facing windows. Again his patience for meticulous workmanship showed. The windows took 6 months to remove, restore and re-install. What we have now will last another 190 years. The rebuilt windows provide superior insulation and functionality. They are indistinguishable from those that were replaced, except they no longer show wear. Gone are the jerry-built fixes, splintered framing and cracked panes. They lock easily, move up and down smoothly, and seal completely. Living nearly 40 years in an old house has taught us if you cannot fix it yourself, you have to call on contractors you can trust. Kin knows better than we do how to approach reconstruction projects. He has earned our trust.
