Baker Incorporated - Construction

Denise Perry and Wesley Baker met in 2004 running the $36 million restoration of the Boston Opera House, and the company they founded together in 2012 still leans toward that world. On its own site, Baker Incorporated presents itself as a source-and-supply business for entertainment venues — acoustic panels, carpeting, fabric wall coverings, and, in the site's words, "if we don't stock it we can get it." Its Houzz profile describes something else: a general contractor doing accessibility modifications, additions, kitchens, baths, new homes, commercial remodels and tenant improvements, with a stated mission to employ people with disabilities. Sort out which side of the business you are calling before you get far. The permits point the same way the website does. BuildZoom's four sampled jobs are mostly commercial — removing entrance doors at a 2,247-seat Randolph venue in 2017, kitchen and bathroom demolition with a dumpster at a Roxbury address in 2014 — alongside two older residential ones, a 2011 porch in Acton and a 2007 permit in Pepperell. Houzz lists Massachusetts unrestricted construction supervisor licences for both Wesley Baker and Denise Perry, plus City of Boston ABC and City of Cambridge licences, and BuildZoom lists construction supervisor licence #CS-107967 for the company. Those are directory entries; look the number up on the state's licence register yourself. For a venue fit-out or commercial tenant work, this is the kind of résumé that fits. For work on a house, ask which of the two supervisors would run your job, what residential work they have finished lately, and confirm the right phone number up front — three different ones appear across their listings.
