Bates Remodeling is a second-generation Canton company: Frederick Bates started it with his son Stephen, and Stephen leads it now, with his brother working closely alongside. The company says it has been at this for 40 years. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #104183, is active, and Stephen Bates holds an active Massachusetts construction supervisor licence. The work is whole-house remodeling — kitchens, baths, basements and additions — and the exterior end of it too: windows, doors, roofs and repairs. BuildZoom shows 59 projects, Houzz shows five, and Houzz lists the company as a National Association of the Remodeling Industry member. The written accounts are dated. A Houzz reviewer in August 2013 described a remodel and new bathrooms, then several smaller projects afterwards, and called the firm up front and honest. The other side of it is a May 2021 Google review from someone whose email inquiry went unanswered; Google averages 3 stars across two ratings. Its BBB page is an A+. A fit for a substantial remodel where you want the same family name on the job from the first drawing to the punch list. After that 2021 complaint, make your first contact by phone rather than email, and ask Stephen Bates for two or three recent projects close to yours in size.
