I typically do not provide online feedback however, when services are far below satisfactory and the team that represents that service uniformly neglect to communicate in an honorable and attentive manner, to first acknowledge issues, second take responsibility for the issues and third work openenly with the customer to document an action plan for resolution, I felt impelled by Whitman Homes ineptness to speak up. Whitman Homes built over 90 townhomes at Redbrook in Plymouth and now also at Pinehills in Plymouth I purchased a new construction property from Whitman Homes. First, they lost a register receipt deposit 55K check (Post office left them a notice to pick up at local post office) and addressed that issue meekly. Never went to the PO in a timely manner to get it and PO then stated it was lost. I offered to cancel the check and wire the money but was told by Colleen “ I don’t think we can do a wire transfer”. A 10 million dollar company and the director of sales doesn’t think they can conduct a wire transfer. Bell number one. Post sale, provided a detailed list if issues and concerns with detail notes documenting the problem along with photos to provide visual clarity. Had to chase them for weeks to get a response and acknowledgment they received the information I provided. They final said yes, got it. Bell number two. They did set a date and time to chip off some small items such as tightening the stair hand rails, jamb pads on a couple of entry doors that leak air and water and fix a water damaged wood floor. A refrigerator they installed was by dented by one of their team members or sub (at the end of the day one of the same) and that’s still spiraling 3 month debacle with several days lost from work with still no resolution insight. The list still remains with several concerns which require onsite remediation, another several which could have been easily knocked off the list admiratively, and mechanical system issues that have gone ignored. Other issues: Not properly sealing exterior foundation surfaces to above grade, not grading exterior fill away from foundation, windows and doors improperly installed, leaking deck membrane, passage door knobs that fall off, improper garage door installation where panels fell off, ventilation plenums left with dirt & dust from construction process and many smaller issues which were repaired and resolved by others. COMUNICATION is the horror which Whitman Homes exudes. The team is horrible with no retuned calls and or emails in a timely fashion. Importunely like many businesses that must address dissatisfied customers, they hide behind the email server and voice mail as their shield. NO one will speak with you on the phone. The new project manager is adamant not to provide a number to speak with him. I was told email is the best way. Having been in sales for 30 years, email can be an effective tool but at the end of the day, direct face to face or phone conversation is the most effective for problem resolution. Perhaps Whitman Homes subscribes to the methodology of ignore the customer enough and maybe they’ll go away in frustration. Step up and do the right thing. Communicate with the customer in person or by phone to acknowledge the issues, devise an action plan remediate the issues and then execute that plan in a reasonable and timely manner. Gary Wise.
I am less than thrilled with Whitman Homes. We purchased a new build home from them, and have had numerous headaches... all related to a severe lack of responsiveness. Once they had our check and signature, prompt replies were gone. In their place was a contractor who might not respond for months and repeated suggestions from them that we contact their subcontractors directly as they had no idea what was happeneing when. I am honestly not sure if this is standard in this industry, but I would most certainly be relieved of my job if I didn't respond to my customers in a timely manner.
