Benedictus Contracting is a Somerville roofing outfit — asphalt shingle repairs and replacements, plus flat, foam, and rubber roof work — that Angi says has served the area since 1998, putting it at 28 years in the trade. Nearly every specific account of its work is about a roof: strip-and-replace jobs, flat roofs on multi-family houses, the occasional full re-roof with new insulation. The written record is thin but old and mostly favorable, running from 2005 to 2010 on Angi, where the company carries a 5.0 rating across 30 reviews. In a 2010 review, a customer described Pete arriving about 20 minutes after posting a service request and being told there was nothing wrong with the roof rather than being sold unneeded work — the reviewer called it the reason for a five-star rating. Another 2010 review called the job "perfect in every way": quick to start, quick to finish, a fair price. A more detailed 2006 account described a full roof and ceiling replacement, including new wood ceilings and insulation, that the homeowner said looked fantastic — good enough that they wished the company did more than siding and roofing. Not every account was as smooth. A 2006 review of a two-flat-roof job said the crew showed up without the promised notice and left debris in the garden and near a tenant's car, though the price held as quoted and the finished work looked solid. A 2005 review said the customer had to call several times to get the crew back to finish cleanup, though the price didn't rise even after part of the agreed work turned out unnecessary. Building permit records tracked by BuildZoom show 95 permitted roofing projects tied to the company, but BuildZoom also lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#144052) and a Newton contractor registration (#98889) as inactive — worth confirming directly before signing anything, since that status isn't independently verified here. Anyone hiring for a straightforward roof repair or replacement in the Somerville area should ask about current licensing and get a clear written schedule up front — the strongest reviews are about honest pricing and solid finished work, but a couple of the older jobs turned on exactly those details.

A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

First of all, Pete got to my home around 20 mn after I posted my need on service magic. Ok. Pete did not do the job. Instead, he told me there is nothing wrong with the roof. If I were him, I would make up some stories, and try to rip clients off. I appreciate his honesty. This is why I give him five stars.
Perfect in every way. Pete showed up quickly, got the job done quickly, asked a fair price, and provided useful information.
Exceptional. Pete was the first to contact us. He came to our home within a couple of days to discuss the project and had a proposal to us in less than a week. His bid was reasonable. Pete and his crew showed up early each day and worked a full day. They understood exactly what they were doing and worked hard all day. Our house has beamed ceilings and part of replacing the roof, was replacing the ceilings and insulation. We wanted wood ceilings and they look fantastic! All our experiences should be this good! I wish Pete did more than just siding and roofs because I would use him each and every time.
I had two flat roofs done on a two-family house that I own 45 minutes away from where I live. I made it clear that I needed notice of when they would do the work, as I felt it was necessary for me to be there when they started, and I wanted to notify my tenants. Then one morning I got a call out of the blue that they were at my house working. I felt communication was lacking and my wishes in this regard were disrespected. Also, the workers threw debris into the garden, and near my tenant's car. But the price was fair and as quoted, they cleaned up after themselves, and the quality of the work appears to be fine; only time will tell.
We had to call a number of times to get him to come clean up, and the price remained the same even though part of the agreed-upon work ended up not needing to be done. But was very easy to talk to and did quality work.
