Benjamin Construction Group runs out of Somerville Ave in Somerville and says it's been operating for 23 years, working roofing, siding, decks, and general remodeling jobs across Cambridge, Belmont, Arlington, and towns further out toward Andover. Star ratings are scattered and thin — 3.7 on Google from three ratings, 3.0 on Houzz from two, and 5.0 on Porch from two — none deep enough to say much on their own. The one substantial written account on file is a hard one: a customer describes cheaper, non-contracted materials going into a roofing job, leaks following, and no resolution after they reached out. Set against that, there's positive carpentry- and siding-related word on record going back years, though no platform here has more than a handful of ratings to draw on. Before booking, it's worth clearing up the company's BBB status: one directory lists it as BBB Accredited since 2014, but BBB's own profile for the business says it is not accredited and has no rating on file. It's also on record that OSHA fined the company in 2014 for a workplace safety violation at a Revere jobsite. Given the materials complaint, put exact product brands and specs in the contract rather than relying on a verbal description of the work. This is a small, established local shop with real roofing and siding experience, but the public record is too thin and too mixed to treat as a safe default — get specifics in writing and verify the accreditation claim yourself before signing.

This is a deceptive and untrustworthy roofing company that will cut corners. They did not use new materials or the materials agreed upon in contract. Old and less expensive materials were used which led to leaks/problems later. Since customers cannot get on the roof to confirm the work done, they took advantage. Upon contacting the company, they never resolved the problem.

Wagner provided a very detailed explanation of what the job entailed. I explained that since our house is on the local and national historic register, any woodwork that needed replacing, including some intricately patterned shingles, would have to have to be an exact match to the original....
