Blackrock Slate works on slate roofs, and its website makes the case for keeping them: it says many buildings in New York, Vermont and the Northeast have slate roofs and that their preservation should be handled with care. The company says it has been in business for 30 years, and it lists a service area that includes Burlington, Colchester, Stowe, Waterbury and Rutland. A recent Google customer said Troy's communication and knowledge were exactly what they needed. A 2024 customer said Troy was professional and communicative and praised the work. A 2024 customer said four skylights the company installed leaked from day one and, after multiple attempts to reflash them, were leaking again. That 2024 customer wrote that a different Velux certified installer said the wrong flashing kits were used and that the skylights need to be replaced completely. The same 2024 customer said the new contractor charged about half of what Blackrock did.

Troy and the Blackrock Slate Team are top-notch professionals. It is extremely difficult to find a trustworthy roofing company to do difficult roof repair and replacement in the North Country. Troy's communication and knowledge were exactly what I needed. Much appreciation for these craftsmen.
Installed 4 skylights, which leaked from day 1. After multiple attempts to reflash them, they stopped leaking for a year, but are back to leaking. A different Velux certified installer indicated that the wrong flashing kits were used in the install and that the skylights were glued to the framing kits, which invalidated any warranty. So three years after install, the skylights need to be replaced completely. The only good news is that the new contractor charged me about half of what Blackrock did, so I would not recommend Blackrock for price or quality.
