Bold Energy installs solar panels. Its website says it handles design, permits, install and inspection end to end across 31 states, and says it has been in business 25 years. On Google it holds 4.7 stars from 666 ratings. A recent customer said the install team got everything up quickly, the work was done well and they left not a trace. A recent customer said the team explained the work, gave ample time before the power was shut off, and left the property very clean. A recent customer had a crew led by Adam that answered questions, explained each step and left the site clean. Some installs went badly. A recent customer said it took three install attempts over a week, after a first visit where five vehicles came with no solar panels; that customer said they were happy with the job. A recent customer described a solar and battery install that failed inspection three times, then quit charging the battery and stopped making solar power; that customer said support requests were ignored for about a week and they were stood up twice for a site visit. In 2024, a customer said the company would not send anyone to check a stopped system without a $1,100 check first, and that the visit fixed a blown fuse in 45 minutes with no refund. A 2024 customer wrote that 15 holes were drilled through their finished ceiling during the panel install and that months later only painters had been sent.
The installers were hard working and considerate.
The installers did a great job. It took 3 days to install the solar panels and battery backup. They took their time and did the job right, making sure to seal up the gaps where the conduits go through the outside walls. It would have been nice if I’d been kept in the loop as far as the design and technical details before the project started, but I guess most people don’t want to be bothered by such nonsense. I asked the salesperson what size the inverter was, and he said it don’t matter becuse I’ll still be connected to da grid. On the first day of the install I found out that the backup battery system can only drive ~30 amps, and the installer implied that it’s a very wimpy 30 amps, with probably no ability to handle brief surges to start a motor on a table saw for example. To be fair I haven’t even tested it yet, so maybe it can drive a table saw, idk. I probably still would have gone for this system knowing that, but I feel cheated and let down having found out about it once the project was already happening. Also this whole contraption connects to the god forsaken cellular network. Eversource and many other people probably have the ability to shut down my backup power remotely. This system also has a conveniently placed shut off switch, that enables any troublemaker to simply walk up and switch off the solar panels, and probably backup battery too. Update 2026-06-01: The system failed inspection for the second time, and is not operational as a result. It still does not match the prints, and it failed to drop the DC voltage below 30 volts within 30 seconds after the AC disconnect switch was opened. 2 stars removed - 1 for each failed inspection. Update 2026-06-15: The system failed inspection for the third time. When utility power was disconnected, the system failed to provide backup power. The backup interface (aka automatic transfer switch) is suspected to be the problem. Update 2026-10-04: It worked for 3 days then it quit charging the battery. The breaker tripped on the battery or some troublemaker came up off the street and turned it off. A few days later it quit making solar power altogether. Communication with Empower has been difficult, my requests for support were ignored for about a week and it was chocked up to issues with their telephony system. Seems like they can't even get telephones to work right for them, let alone the garbage that SolarEdge cranks out. They're at the mercy of SolerEdge to get it fixed, and it's so messed up SolarEdge had to bring the issue to their senior technicians. Empower also stood me up twice for a site visit due to poor communication. This cost me 2 vacation days from work. Well, we shall see what happens. I will be amazed if this is fixed before 2027.
Professional!
The install team was great, kind, friendly and very professional. I was I pressed with how quickly they got everything up, the work was done well and they left not a trace.
Very professional and courteous.
