Boston Custom Remodeling is a South Boston/Boston-area renovation company offering kitchen and bathroom remodeling, drywall, painting, flooring, additions, and broader residential construction. BBB lists 11 years in business and names John McGinn as a partner; the company is not BBB accredited, although BBB shows an A+ letter grade. The written customer history is substantial but dated, spanning 2017–2023. Positive accounts describe kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and whole-home work completed on budget or with good results. A 2022 kitchen review praised completing the project on time and at the quoted price, while a 2021 bathroom review described good quality and a new walk-in shower despite a one-week delay. A 2020 review also reported two successful projects, including an addition. The record also contains serious complaints. A 2023 review alleged unfinished work and unpaid subcontractors. Reviews from 2018 and 2017 described abandoned or incomplete projects, poor finish work, delayed responses, and unresolved construction problems. BuildZoom lists 12 permitted projects but shows three inactive license records and no active license on file; verify current licensing before hiring. A separate 2026 Angi page says the pro is under review. The company may fit homeowners seeking a broad remodeling scope, but the mixed record makes references, current license status, written scope, payment schedule, warranty terms, and completion protections especially important to confirm before work begins.
We bought a renovated house from him John/Sean Mcginn and Boston custom remodeling is the worst contractor. Don't not hire him. He is a scam and does absolutely terrible work. He owes people money, doesn't finish jobs and disappears. He is Not a good person and the worst contractor. Everything he does needs to be fixed by someone else. Roofs, bathrooms, kitchens , absolutely terrible , shoddy finish work. Run.
Kitchen renovation $52,000 Very pleased with Boston Custom and will work with them again. They were able to complete our kitchen on budget and on time. All I hear from friends is how their contractors added costs to the job during the project and we didn’t have one issue. The price we paid was the price quoted. Good guys too.

Boston Custom Remodeling completed our bathroom renovation about a week ago and we are very happy with it. We obtained three quotes before choosing them as the middle bid. They handled the project from start to finish including all trades. The only negatives were minor (the project ran long by a week and it took 2 weeks to get the initial estimate). The quality of the work was great and we love our new walk-in shower. We plan to use them in the future on a kitchen renovation.
