The company describes itself as a Master Plumbing, Gas-fitting and Sheet Metal corporation with the state and a Mass Save rebates partner; Better Business Bureau and Houzz listings show master plumber, electrical, sheet metal and home improvement licence numbers. In January 2022 the trade press reported that Sila Services, a private-equity-backed home services platform, acquired Boston Standard along with New England Ductless. On the platforms, the headline numbers are strong: Angi and HomeAdvisor show 4.6 stars from 346 ratings, and Houzz shows 4.0 from 4. The written reviews that praise them are about specific installs and repairs. In an April 2025 review a homeowner described a multi-day mini-split installation by Dylan and Pedro, who answered questions and worked around a work-from-home schedule; a September 2025 reviewer wanted Tony and Ollie back for any future electrical work; and 2023 and 2024 reviewers described a heat pump install, a compressor job where the electrician flagged a breaker fixture that had to move, and a tankless water heater consultation where the technician came prepared with realistic next steps. A 2021 Reddit poster whose furnace died mid-week called them because their usual contractors could not come for days. The complaints are serious and specific, and they cluster in 2022 through 2024. Two 2023 reviewers said the company could not fix what it installed: one described three air conditioners that still made noise and leaked after roughly thirty service visits and was considering a lawyer; another said technicians misdiagnosed a tankless combi heater. An August 2024 reviewer said Boston Standard's own technician called their HVAC installation a terrible job and the company then declined to cover the repair. In 2022, a Houzz reviewer and two Angi reviewers, including a long-time annual client and a licensed engineer, described missed appointment windows and hours of waiting; one said they had moved to another company. Boston Standard fits a homeowner who wants one licensed outfit for plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical in one call, and who values same-week response over price. Before booking, ask how the company handles warranty claims on its own installations and what the arrival-window commitment actually is, since those are the two things unhappy customers have written about.
“My furnace stopped working on Monday night. When I called on Tuesday morning my usual contractors had no availability until Friday so I called Boston Standard. They brag about having a van full of parts so there's no waiting to order them. I was told the tech would give me a quote before starting the work, but instead he worked for an hour and a half, was mostly nonverbal except to rant about my Nest thermostat, and then presented me with a $681 bill to replace my flame sensor - a $20 part that he _didn't_ have in the van.”

Tony and Ollie were AMAZING!! Definitely hire them again for any electrical work!!
This was our first time using Boston Standard and we had a good experience. Dylan and Pedro installed our mini splits over a couple days. They were great and answered all our questions and were accommodating with me working from home. Dan showed up on the 2nd day and was also very professional and walked me through the install in our basement.
Absolutely unbelieve horrible service and customer service. Had installation of HVAC done through them, their own service person that reviewed the installation said it was terrible job (not knowing they installed it in the first place). Now they don't want to cover the cost of fixing the issue. Customer service took more than 2 weeks to answer our call and hang up on us. Very, very disappointing for company that charges premium for there services. Definitely look other places if you are considering them!!!

Carlos was professional and a good communicator. He listened and explained the job and called out changes when needed (the compressor was higher than expected so a circuit breaker fixture had to be moved.)
