Two hundred and eighteen permits, and they nearly all say the same word: windows. Brian Blanchard's permit trail runs from 2018 to 2025 across Mansfield, Methuen, Holbrook, Arlington, Taunton, Randolph, Quincy, Brookline, Boston, Dorchester, West Roxbury, North Attleboro, Buzzards Bay and East Wareham, and the descriptions barely vary — custom-manufactured triple-glazed vinyl double-hungs, some commercially rated aluminum units, a patio door. What isn't windows is blown-in insulation and weatherstripping. That makes him a specialist, whatever the directory page around it says. BuildZoom prints a kitchen-bathroom-basement-whole-home-addition menu above the permits; that is the site's own generic list, and none of it turns up in a single permitted job. The licence section on that page should not be read as credentials. BuildZoom lists seven records under eight type labels and the bundle does not hold together: number 203971 appears under both 'Building Contractor' and 'Residential Builder', 102691 under both 'General Contractor' and 'Electrical Contractor', and four City-of-Newton registrations are printed Active while carrying a December 2022 expiry. There is even an elevator mechanic licence, EM-005446, marked inactive and once cancelled — an implausible credential for a window and insulation installer, and most likely another holder's record. The only number carrying BuildZoom's own verified badge is the construction supervisor licence CS-094321, shown active as of June 2026, and that is the directory's check rather than a state one. The number that actually matters to a homeowner is the Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #126166, which BuildZoom marks inactive and at one point cancelled — and then contradicts further down its own page, where a FAQ says the business currently holds all five numbers and that they were active when it last checked. Settle that before any deposit: confirm the current HIC registration directly with the state rather than from the directory. BuildZoom also states it has received no reviews for him, so its score of 101 — which it says places him above 88% of 139,240 Massachusetts contractors — is built from permits and licence records, not from anyone who hired him. For a whole-house window replacement, the volume is the real thing on offer here: someone who does that one job, repeatedly, in a lot of towns. Ask for the current registration, check it yourself, and ask for two addresses from last year's jobs.
