Tom Frangos styles himself 'The 2nd Story & Addition Specialist™', and the posted work backs the label. Of the 17 projects on his Beverly company's Houzz page, several are second-story additions — one in Newton, one over the border in Portsmouth, New Hampshire — alongside an 1886 farmhouse restoration in Boxford and a run of Beverly houses. The background he states is an unusual one for a builder: an MBA from Wharton, a BS in engineering, and a spell as a senior project manager at Toll Brothers before more than 30 years running his own shop. Building & Remodeling Corp. of America works out of 100 Cummings Center in Beverly and names 30 North Shore towns in its service area — Marblehead, Swampscott, Nahant, Salem, Lynn and Beverly among them, with another 21 unshown. Stated job costs run from $15,000 to over $1 million, a wide net that takes in single-room remodels and whole second floors alike. None of what's published comes from a customer. The Houzz profile carries no reviews and still invites the first one, and the ten 'Comments' beneath it are Design Dilemma forum answers the owner posted in January 2014 rather than client accounts. Two details on that profile are worth a second look. The 'Awards' block lists a Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire legislative committee seat and 'Engineering Degree' — a trade-body role in a different state and an academic qualification, neither of them a Massachusetts building credential. And the one licence number published, MA CS#043786, is a construction supervisor licence; ask separately for the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, since the two are different things. For a second story or a large addition on the North Shore, the posted project set is the strongest argument here — and it is the argument you should test. Get owner contacts from two or three of those 17 jobs, walk one if you can, and look up both licence numbers on the state registry yourself before signing.
