Burnham & LaRoche Associates is not a typical window, siding or gutter contractor — it's a Medford stained-glass studio, and the trade here is fabricating and restoring ornamental glass for churches, historic homes and the craftspeople who work alongside them. The company says it traces back over a century, formed from the 1922 Wilbur H. Burnham Studio and the 1895 LaRoche Studio, two of the older names in American stained glass, with Kevin M. Ryan running the shop today. The one detailed account on file is glowing and specific. A 2025 review described Kevin repairing and restoring two original stained-glass windows in a home over 130 years old, matching the new glass to the old so closely the reviewer couldn't tell which panes were replaced. Similar praise for his work shows up elsewhere: a fellow stained-glass artist credited him with fabricating, transporting and installing a piece of liturgical glasswork, and a trade magazine profiled him discussing how church restoration work has replaced the ecclesiastical commissions that used to be the industry's bread and butter. There isn't much of a public review trail to lean on beyond that one account, so most of what's known about the studio's standing comes from its trade reputation and a handful of third-party mentions rather than a deep base of customer feedback. For restoring or fabricating stained glass — a church window, a Tiffany lamp, a period home's original glass — this is a specialist shop with a century-plus pedigree behind it; it isn't the right call for ordinary vinyl window replacement or siding work.
“At Burnham LaRoche in Medford, Massachusetts, Kevin M. Ryan puts a finer point on the multiple sides of the industry.”
“several windows from the Burnham Studio, a historic Boston company now operating in Medford as Burnham & Laroche Associate”
“The work was designed and glass-painted by me, and was fabricated, transported, and installed by Kevin Ryan of the historic Burnham & La Roche Associates Stained Glass studio, of Medford MA. (established 1895)”
Kevin did an amazing job repairing and restoring two original stained glass windows in my 130 + year old home. The new glass sections match the old perfectly, and I am not able to tell which are new. He was very skilled at removing the windows and reinstalling them. I couldn't be happier with the job!
