C R A Mechanical is a Pepperell, Massachusetts, HVAC company that says it has operated since 1963 as a second-generation family business owned by brothers Kevin Henderson and Alan Henderson. Its own description covers residential and commercial heating and cooling, ventilation, ductwork, indoor air quality, new construction, installation, repair, and maintenance across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The company has five Google Reviews from 2022 through 2025. A 2025 reviewer described RA Mechanical juggling its schedule to move an AC unit for a new client, while another praised fast service and technicians. The more detailed history is mixed: a 2024 reviewer reported a furnace setup problem that led to a $1,600 repair estimate, and 2023 and 2022 reviews described unresolved gas and AC installation issues. Before booking, ask how installation quality is checked, what after-hours and diagnostic charges cover, and how warranty labor is handled. The company states that it is licensed and insured, offers free estimates, and provides 24-hour emergency service; those are self-reported claims to confirm directly. C R A Mechanical may fit homeowners seeking a long-established HVAC installer or service company in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, especially where its stated equipment and ductwork capabilities match the job. Confirm scope, pricing, warranty terms, and response commitments in writing.

Some friends of mine needed their AC unit moved as they were having work done around the house. So I referred RA Mechanical as I had a good experience with them. They juggled their schedule to add the extra stop and helped out a new client. I was impressed and so were my friends.
Great service technicians and fast service
My gas furnace was installed by this contractor in 2015. It was never correctly set up for propane gas and was running at too high a pressure. I’m now looking at a $1600 repair bill. Gee, thanks!
3 year old furnace installation by RA, smelling gas a year ago when it was 24mths old. Had an after hours call for $350. No problem found, still smelling gas. I self installed a NG gas detector. It went nuts today, called Liberty. Liberty tech finds faulty gas valve. RA responded. Tech says $100 diag and $150 labor port to port to replace under warranty. We clarified this was the charge and I agreed to labor price. Tech goes to get valve, replaces it and writes me the bill that is suddenly $200 diag and $150 labor with a $50 trip fee. Sure wish he would have found the faulty valve last year, when we first smelled gas, same tech. Total $400 to replace a gas valve under warranty. Atleast we have heat. Made me a smarter customer I guess, need to ask for quote in writing next time. Still felt very "off-the-cuff". 3 stars for fast response and same day fix + they had my records of the install on file.
RA mechanical installed my HVAC system as part of a builders contract. I moved in to my new house in January 2019. When summer came around I tried to use my AC system and it did not work. I called RA mechanical to have it looked at, the tech walked me through a few things to check and found out that they never opened the lines going from the condenser to the evaporator in the furnace. The tech said he would come out Sunday and take care of it. Sunday came and the tech no call no show. On Monday it was like pulling teeth to get RA out to fix the issue. A tech showed up, threw some coolant in the system and left. Later that summer the system started freezing up so I had RA mechanical back out. The tech said system was low on coolant but he couldn’t find a leak so he put more coolant in it and left. Next summer same thing, system started freezing again. I had RA mechanical out again and they said it’s low on coolant so there must be a leak but due to it being out of warranty they want to charge me to find it. The tech said he would have to come back another day and charged me $350 and my system still didn’t work. I hired another hvac company to take a look at it because RA mechanical said they can’t locate the leak. The other company was able to locate the leak at a connection on the front of the evaporator. He also informed me after charging the system back up that my compressor is no longer working due to the constant leak in it for 3 years. He went to get me a new compressor under warranty which should be 5 years through YORK but since the installer never registered the unit it is not covered under warranty. So now I’m stuck replacing a system that’s 3 years old because of their incompetence. Do not hire RA mechanical.
