Canavan Builders

Canavan Builders is a Shrewsbury general contractor that Worcester-area homeowners turn to for bigger jobs — additions and full renovations rather than small repairs. In a 2024 Reddit post, a homeowner recalled hiring the company for "a large renovation a few years ago" and called it the best-priced of three bids, adding that "Mike is a good guy and did quality work." A second, 2023 post describes hiring Canavan for a home addition, calling the result "a great job" at "reasonably priced." Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (HIC #175127) is active, verified against the state registry and held by Michael Canavan. BBB has not rated the business — its file lists it as "Not Rated" for insufficient information, with no complaints listed — but does note the company dating to 2004. Beyond general contracting, BBB's listing for the business also names roofing, siding, window installation, deck building, and bathroom and kitchen remodeling, though the two customer accounts describe whole-project renovation and addition work rather than any single trade. Given how few independent reviews are out there, it's worth asking Canavan directly for references from a project similar in size to your own before booking. For a homeowner planning a sizable addition or remodel who wants a licensed, locally known contractor with a couple of strong word-of-mouth accounts behind him, that's a reasonable starting point — just ask for recent references given how little else is documented online.
