On Houzz, Casali Companies says it specializes in custom home building, additions and remodeling. On BuildZoom it calls itself a Connecticut general contractor building and renovating homes since 1973. It carries an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau, and its Houzz profile lists a Qualified Remodeler Top 500 listing for 2015 through 2019. A 2026 Google reviewer who built a new house with the company gave one star and wrote that, after the final payment, they learned Jim Casali did not pay $13000 to the electrician. That reviewer said the electrician put a mechanic's lien on the house, that the person who did the finish trim work came to the house asking how to find Jim because he had not been paid, and that the tile guy and plumber were not fully paid. The reviewer also wrote that Jim explained he holds back payments for leverage. The same customer said they are still owed a screened-in porch and a door that was not installed properly, at a cost of over $10000, and that Jim does not answer his phone or respond to emails. A 2025 Google reviewer whose company did work on one of Jim Casali's projects wrote that payment was in hand as soon as the work was completed. A 2025 customer who hired the company to build a home said any issues were quickly resolved by Jim and the team. A 2025 customer who hired Casali Companies for a home addition wrote that the design fit their existing space and the project was completed on time. In a 2022 Google review, a customer described a remodel of the master bedroom and bathroom plus a kids' bathroom that meant relocating doors, extending the master bedroom entry into the hallway, relocating ceiling AC vents and moving nearly all of the plumbing. That 2022 customer said Jim worked up multiple floor plan options and the crew cleaned up at the end of every day. A 2022 Houzz reviewer described a full master bathroom remodel and a partial kitchen remodel managed by Jimmy and Jack. A 2020 BuildZoom reviewer said Jim came up with creative and effective solutions for the renovation of a historic home.
Don’t be fooled. A great website and a company with a 50-year history whose motto is building on trust would make you believe you are dealing with a company you can be confident in. We thought we had a partner when we recently finished building our new house with Casali companies. The truth of who you're dealing with may not present itself until the end. This is when you realize that Jim Casali has an unethical approach to dealing with and paying his subcontractors. After the final payment, we learned he did not pay $13000 to the electrician. Then we had the guy who did the finish trim work show up at our house asking how he could find Jim because he didn’t get paid, and Jim wouldn’t answer his phone. After that, the company who installed our gas fireplace called and told us he was owed $1000. We also learned that the tile guy and plumber were not fully paid. When we were still able to communicate with Jim respectibly, he explained that he holds back payments for leverage. The leverage is only to protect himself. We had a mechanic's lien put on our house from the electrician who understandably wanted to get paid promptly. We made our final payment weeks before. Jim refused to pay the electrician with the money we gave him. We discovered that this may not be the first time he has played this game. As the homeowner, it’s usually not worth the cost of going to court versus settling a mechanic's lien to subcontractors who should have been paid. Meanwhile, Jim keeps the money. We are also owed a screened-in porch and a door that needs to be fixed because it wasn't installed properly. This will cost us over $10000. Jim does not answer his phone or respond to emails, so we are left with the extra expense of hiring someone else to do the job he was contracted to do. The lesson learned is never to trust someone who says trust me. Be sure to do your due diligence with a detailed contract that has better protection for you in a business transaction. Be sure to get a full written release of any potential liens from subcontractors before you make your final payment to a contractor. If you are dealing with Casali companies, never let your guard down. An honorable respected company with integrity would do the right thing and not try to work the system and take advantage of their clients or people that work for them.
We hired the Casali’s to build our home, and the experience was nothing short of fantastic. From start to finish, they were thoughtful, communicative, and truly committed to bringing our vision to life. Not only did we get to build our dream house but they made sure every detail was tailored to our lifestyle and needs. They were accommodating, collaborative, and incredibly respectful of our time, budget, and ideas. What stood out most was their integrity and the pride they take in their work. Any issues we had were quickly resolved, and accommodated by Jim and the team. We’re now living in a space that feels uniquely ours, and that’s because of the care and craftsmanship they put into every step. We now have someone we trust that we can go to for any addition, repairs or renovation needs. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get a renovation or build a home with people who genuinely care. Thank you!
We had a great experience working with Casali Companies on our new home. The whole team was professional, easy to communicate with, and cared about getting everything just right. They kept us in the loop the whole way through, and the quality of the work is excellent. Highly recommend them if you're looking for a builder you can trust!
Casali Companies were FANTASTIC. They did an amazing job on our home addition and were easy to work with. Our vision for the new space came out perfectly – Highly recommend!
Over the winter my company was contacted by Jim Casali for some work he needed done on a project, we gave him a price, he hired us, and as soon as we completed the work payment was in hand, he was a pleasure to work with, very professional.
