Chaperon LLC is a family-owned Brockton, Massachusetts general contractor run by owner Joseph Chaperon, also registered with the state as JBC Construction, offering roughly a decade of residential and light-commercial construction and remodeling work including framing, roofing, concrete and masonry, and HVAC installation and repair. The business holds an active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license (#174521) and carries an A+ grade from the Better Business Bureau, though it is not BBB-accredited. The written customer record, however, is dated and mixed. In a 2020 BuildZoom review, a customer paid $12,000 for a furnace and water heater job and said the crew did a good job and they were very happy with the results, even though insurance pre-approval requirements slowed things down. But three other reviews from 2020 and 2021 describe a very different experience: a 2021 review recounts an AC system replacement that was started, botched, and abandoned, requiring a new contractor to tear it out and start over; an October 2020 review describes a furnace repair that was never properly resolved with the customer's home warranty company, leaving the homeowner without heat for months; and a June 2020 review describes a project the contractor never returned to finish, leaving a window frame exposed to rain. Together these four reviews average 2.0 out of 5 stars on BuildZoom. Worth asking about before hiring: given how consistently the negative reviews describe jobs left incomplete or abandoned rather than simply done poorly, it's worth confirming current staffing, project capacity, and communication practices directly, and getting a clear written timeline and completion commitment before starting work. All of the written reviews on file are from 2020 and 2021, so there's no verified account of more recent jobs. Chaperon LLC may suit a homeowner comfortable doing extra diligence — confirming license status, getting references for recent work, and setting clear milestones and a written schedule up front given the pattern of unfinished projects in the review record.
Contracted through my home warranty company to replace my AC system. Started the job and then botched it and then disappeared! The new contractor now needs to complete tear out the system he installed and start from scratch. This guy is in over his skis and should just should not be a contractor. If there was a less than one star rating, that's what I would give.
If there was a less than one star rating, that’s what I would give this company.
Furnace, water heater $12,000. The guys did a good job. From the beginning they reinforced work can only be done if pre-approved by insurance company. With that in mind it took a little longer to get the job done but I was very happy with the results.
Fix furnace. $5,000. If I could give 0 stars, I would. He came to fix my furnace under a home warranty. Then he stated that the entire furnace needed to be replaced. Never filed it with the company and told them he fixed. I have now been months without heat since he won't complete his requirements with American Home Shield. Avoid at all costs.
Verified Hire. Never finished project. Said he be back in a week to finish off the project, it's been over a month and he never came back. Everything was going great up until the last day, now rain keeps soaking the window frame because he never finished.
