The sharpest thing anyone has said about City Enterprise came from a client, not a homeowner: in a 2024 review, someone from the Massachusetts Air National Guard wrote that the Springfield firm wrapped a $6.5 million job on schedule and with "a shocking minimal number of change orders." That is the kind of work it points at. The company describes itself as a minority woman-owned design-build and renovation contractor working mainly on government, municipal and commercial projects, and lists SBA and DCAMM certification on its own site — its own claims, not something confirmed against a registry here. Wonderlyn Murphy, who goes by Wonda, is named as president and CEO on both its BBB page and its BuildZoom profile. The residential side is much thinner. Sixteen reviews sit across six sources, and most of the seventeen five-star Google ratings were written by people inside or alongside the business — employees describing what it is like to work there, a summer intern, a union representative, a digital-media collaborator. The one account from someone who hired them for a house is old: a 2015 BuildZoom reviewer described a project run start to finish on time and singled out the structural and interior design suggestions. Its written record then runs out in April 2024. Two things are worth raising before you call. BuildZoom's page carries a quality alert saying no active license is on file and that it could not verify one — a directory's statement rather than the state registry's, but exactly the sort of thing to settle with the company directly. And a December 2025 local news report described a competing bidder filing a protest on a Granby project, claiming City Enterprise and another firm had low-balled their bids; that is an allegation a rival made, not a finding against anyone. What it can show, it shows on the public side: building permits on file for commercial and municipal projects in Springfield and Westfield, and a 2021 news piece describing a demolition and structural restoration of a historic building in downtown Springfield, with Murphy then turning toward affordable housing in restored properties. For a city, a school district or a commercial owner, that is a legible track. For a homeowner, the picture is older and mostly indirect — so ask for recent residential references, confirm the Massachusetts registration yourself, and get the licensing question answered in writing before any work starts.
