City Enterprise builds for public clients. The Springfield firm, led by president Wonderlyn Murphy, describes itself as a minority woman-owned design-build and renovation contractor working mainly on government, municipal and commercial projects, and the state holds it as a certified Minority Business Enterprise, Women Business Enterprise and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. The best-documented job comes from a construction partner who wrote in April 2024 that the company had just wrapped a $6.5 million project for the Massachusetts Air National Guard, on schedule and with what they called a shocking minimal number of change orders, and credited the on-site project management for it. A client writing on BuildZoom in 2015 described a project taken from cradle to grave in good time, with structural and interior design suggestions they were pleased with. A local news item in 2021 reported the firm finishing a demolition and structural restoration of a historic building in downtown Springfield and turning its attention to affordable housing in restored properties. Most of the other five-star reviews were written by people who work at the company or alongside it: employees a month or a year into the job, a summer intern who shadowed the project superintendent, a union representative whose apprentices were placed there, a digital media collaborator. They say useful things about how the place is run and how it treats people starting out, but they are not accounts of hiring it for a project. Two things to raise directly. BuildZoom's profile carries a quality alert saying no active licence is on file and shows the licence status as unable to verify, and the Better Business Bureau publishes no rating because it says it does not have sufficient information, listing no complaints and no government actions either. The company states SBA and DCAMM certifications on its own site; the three state diversity certifications are the ones an outsider can check, and the Minority and Women Business Enterprise ones run to July 2029. This is a contractor for public and commercial work: municipal and institutional buildings and historic restoration in and around Springfield. A homeowner planning a kitchen or an addition is not the client it describes. Anyone bidding it on a project should ask for current licence and bonding paperwork, and for references from the completed public jobs.
