Septic is the work Clifford Excavation keeps coming back to. BuildZoom shows 21 permitted septic-trench installations across the Yarmouth-area towns, and the oldest written accounts, from 2017, are already about septic jobs. The company runs out of Harwich, calls itself a family-operated Cape Cod excavation contractor doing septic, utility and site-work excavation for homes and commercial sites, and says it has been at it for 50 years; its site states a Title V & Advanced Septic Installer Certification. Customers use two names: Gary and Collin. Seven of the eleven written accounts are five-star, and the biggest one ran a single week. In a February 2023 review, a homeowner wrote that their lot was cleared within a week of first contact — 30 large stumps out, the whole property graded, a 185-foot stone driveway installed — and called Gary and Collin knowledgeable and easy to work with. A June 2023 reviewer had Gary come out on an emergency call to deal with a situation another company had caused, and said he kept in constant communication about when he would be at the house. In 2019, an Angi reviewer who hires contractors for a living called Collin the hardest working young man he had ever seen. Staying in touch is where this crew has slipped. A 2021 BuildZoom review of a $10,000 new septic system says the job took 11 months to finish after half the contract price was paid, that phone calls and texts were ignored, and that the reasons given for the delays were untrue. A 2020 Angi reviewer described a milder version of the same thing — sometimes difficult to reach, which he put down to how hard they work on each job — and still recommended them for a septic replacement. Two one-star Google reviews arrived in May 2026, both about the young man driving the company's trucks: one calls him rude and unprofessional, the other says he was laughing in his face and flipped him off as he drove away. If you need a septic system put in, or a lot cleared and graded, this is a Cape Cod crew with a long history of exactly that work. Settle two things before you sign: a written schedule with check-in dates, given the job that took 11 months in 2021, and — if what you actually need is a pump-out — whether they do it at all, since HomeAdvisor's service list includes septic cleaning while the About text on that same page says they do not provide pump outs or cleanings whatsoever.
