The reviews here name people, not the company. Rebecca Connelly, Helene Tatkow, a designer who worked closely with one customer on unique features of a walk-in — Closet Factory Boston's customers write about the person who measured their space. The Wilmington operation at 355 Middlesex Ave is one location of a national closet-organizer franchise. BBB records it trading since January 1984 — 42 years — with 28 employees and Bill Pugh as president and owner, under the corporate name CF Closet Solutions, Inc.. Its BBB page carries an A+ and accreditation dating to April 2024. Houzz puts typical jobs between $3,000 and $30,000, shows 11 projects, and maps a service area running north and west of Boston from Lowell and Lawrence out to Concord and Lynnfield. The written history is short — 4.2 across five Houzz reviews — and it rewards reading rather than averaging. An interior designer wrote in 2017 that she used them for client jobs in Concord and Lynnfield, and that the two installers called an hour ahead, protected the areas they worked in and cleaned up afterward. A 2024 customer described the installation crew as polite, timely and neat start to finish, and a 2014 reviewer credited designer Helene Tatkow with reworking a difficult space repeatedly until it fit. Against that sits a 2016 one-star account of a dressing-room build. The reviewer wrote that the designer had forgotten a large electrical panel that needed to stay accessible, forcing an on-the-spot redesign with the carpenter, and that several closet doors and shelves were missing on install day and took months of scheduled-then-cancelled appointments to arrive. It is a decade old and nothing since repeats it, but it is the only detailed account of a job going wrong, and it is about coordination — which is what a built-in at this price depends on. One thing to settle before signing. BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration for the company, #161874, and records it as expired since April 2018 and at one point cancelled. That is the directory's record rather than a verification, so ask them for their current registration number and check it against the state register yourself. Houzz also lists memberships the company claims — the American Society of Interior Designers, the Builders Association of Boston, the National Association of Home Builders and NARI — plus an Angie's List Super Service Award from 2013. This is the right call if you want a designed-and-manufactured storage system with a showroom, a designer assigned to you and a franchise's material sourcing behind it. Before the install date, pin down who your designer is, get the full parts list in writing, and confirm the registration.
Top notch, worked with Rebecca Connelly. Design to installation was an excellent experience. Would highly recommend. Instillation crew was polite, timely and neat start to finish.
Outstanding design consultation and communication. Our designer worked closely with us on unique features for our design and installation. I researched a ton of options online and in person, which gave me the opportunity to truly build a customized solution for my walk in closet. We were thrilled to work with the Closet Factory team. Awesome design, high-quality manufacturing of the materials, and first-rate installation. I was so impressed with how easy they are to work with.
I hired Closet Factory for my client's condo in Concord and another client in Lynnfield. On both jobs they did great work! The 2 installers were very nice, they notified me an hour before coming, protected the areas they worked in and cleaned up after they finished. The closets look amazing! Will definitely be using you again.
After many months of discussions, and design meetings, I hired the Closet Factory to design and build a dressing room in my home. An install date was scheduled for mid August 2015 and at that time they were paid in full for their work. When they arrived to complete the installation, the first issue I encountered was that the owner/designer had completely forgotten about a large electrical panel (which needed to remain accessible) in one area of the closet. Since his design didn't account for the panel, and I could not reach him to discuss, I was forced (on the spot) to redesign that section of the closet (over the phone) with the carpenter. The second issue I ran into is that when the initial install took place, I was not informed that they were missing several of the closet doors and shelves necessary to complete the job. It ultimately took several months for them to return with the doors and shelves and this was after they scheduled and cancelled those install appointments with me a few times. In addition to all of the above, I would also honestly say that the quality of work was subpar. The hardware I purchased was in some cases installed unevenly and my soft close drawers sometimes close and sometimes do not, so I am often left trying to force them shut. I 've reached out to the owner, my contact, to discuss my dissatisfaction and have basically received lip service from him. I would not recommend working with the Closet Factory and I regret not hiring an established contractor with quality woodworkers/carpenters on staff for this room.
I hired Helene Tatkow from The Closet Factory to design closets and storage for a very difficult space. Helene was the consummate professional! She was creative, thoughtful, and above all, smart! I had a lot of questions and we had to rework the space many times. Throughout the process she was patient and listened well to my concerns. The result is a set of closets and storage spaces that meet my high standards of efficiency and beauty. Helene understands that closet design must meet each individual's specific requirements and one size does not fit all. I could not be happier with the result!
