Read fifty of this franchise's reviews and you notice something: almost none of them are about the company. They're about Devin and Ray, Josh and Anthony, Erick and Will — customers naming the two or three people who showed up. That's the shape of College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving's Chelmsford territory, run out of Lawrence Street in Lowell: a high-volume junk-and-moving operation where the crew on your driveway is the whole experience. The volume is real — 4.9 stars across 1,814 Google ratings, 878 reviews since 2022, 172 of them in the last six months. The junk-removal side moves fast. One customer in May 2026 booked expecting only a quote and had the items gone the same day, half an hour after the truck arrived. Same-day couch and mattress pickups run through the recent reviews, usually with a call ahead and an on-site estimate before anyone lifts anything. The moving side handles the awkward jobs. In May 2026 a crew took a piano out of an apartment without using the stairs; in June, one wrapped an antique dresser and another loaded a POD tightly enough that the customer said it saved on container fees. A three-day job that June went from junk haul to packing to driving the load down to Washington, D.C. Two crews worked a 100-degree July heat wave through a ten-hour day and still wrapped each item. The thing to pin down is upstream of the crew. A one-star review in July 2026 describes exactly that gap: the customer says they gave an accurate manifest — sofa hoists, stops, packed materials, the layout — and three movers arrived who had never done a hoist and were short-handed for the job, and the move stretched into its ninth hour. The reviewer's complaint is pointed at how the job was quoted and staffed, not at the men doing it. It's one voice against a very large positive record, but it's recent and specific. Another reviewer that May noted the crew arrived late, though they called ahead and explained. So: confirm the manifest with whoever quotes you, and confirm how many movers and what equipment are actually assigned — in writing — before the day. For a same-day junk haul or a straightforward local move, this is a shop that gets a truck out quickly and whose crews get named by customers over and over.
“College HUNKS out of seabrook”
We used College Hunks to remove a couch and some other odds and end. From the beginning, they were extremely responsive in communication with my wife and gave us a reasonable and clear quote as to what to expect. I cannot remember the name of the movers but they showed up on time and were extremely polite and moved fast! Highly recommend them for any moving or junk hauling job you have. Thanks again guys!
I genuinely hate writing bad reviews but I have to here. Do not hire this company There was a clear breakdown in knowledge and communication between the people who quoted the job and those on the ground. We had given an accurate manifest of our belongings including sofa hoists, description of environment, stops, and packed materials. College Hunks had 3 guys show up who had never hoisted anything, were woefully undermanned for the job. The guys worked very hard and I felt bad for them as we went onto hour 9 of our move, but the issues stem from a company whose business practices put them in danger by inadequately preparing them for a situation that can be dangerous. I understand that it was quoted as $255 an hour at an hourly and things sometimes go longer than expected, but they worked for 9 hours and didn’t even complete the job they were assigned because they were not given ample enough manpower to complete the job. The only reason they were done in 9 hours was because for the last 3 I participated in the move itself (which for those who don’t know, defeats the point of actually hiring movers) The final bill came out to around $3000 (which is more than 9 hours at $255 for anyone that knows how math works) we eventually settle at around $2100 after they removed around $800 for undisclosed materials (I don’t know, I haven’t received an itemized bill lol) That’s all before we discovered that the guys had broken our 2 tv’s valued at $600 (just because they’re not nice doesn’t mean they don’t cost money) and broken the cable line to our house which we will have to fix out of pocket. I can’t lie, these guys are horrible. Genuinely the worst possible outcome we could have had short of our you guys just driving a truck full of our stuff off a cliff into the ocean and still demanding we pay. I put in a call for someone to reach out so we can settle this, and we will be disputing the charge until we can come to some sort of agreement. And if I don’t hear from anyone, luckily I was moved to the town next door to their location and I will go there myself to speak to the owner
