Commonwealth Fireplace is a Norwood, Massachusetts fireplace and stove showroom that sells and installs gas fireplaces, inserts, gas logs and wood stoves. Google shows 3.9 stars from 71 ratings. The company describes itself as family owned and operated and says it has been in business 27 years. In October 2026 a Google reviewer wrote that a salesperson named Jodi walked them through options and the pros and cons, and a 2023 couple buying a wood-fire insert credited her with steering them away from a choice that would have suited them less. A December 2024 reviewer said the company handled everything for a wood insert, from the purchase and installation to the building permit and inspection, and added that getting a wood stove takes several months. In another December 2024 review, a customer gave a technician, Dennis, five stars for finding the issue with their gas fireplace and cleaning the whole unit, while giving the company three stars for confused scheduling and slow call-backs over more than four weeks. A January 2026 Reddit commenter said the sales and install process for their Harman stove went well. In an October 2026 review, a customer who had three fireplaces installed said one, an Ortal power-vent unit, gets going after a few hours of work by the company's crew and then fails again the next day. A July 2025 reviewer said the company failed to complete the setup on two of three units they bought, that a gas fireplace install for someone they referred took three tries with black smoke on the first, and that the install team caused damage. An August 2026 reviewer twice left the store without the information they needed and never got the promised Tuesday call, and in October 2025 a reviewer was still waiting on a call back after three days. A 2023 reviewer said the company declined to service gas fireplaces it had not installed, and a 2022 Reddit commenter called it slow, disorganized and expensive.
“I got my Harman Stove from Commonwealth Fireplace in Norwood. I know it’s not CT but figured I would mention. They were great with the sales and install process.”
“What's your experience been like with Commonwealth? Yelp reviews are mixed”
“Commonwealth fireplace is the cheapest stove will probably be around 6k installed.”
“We like our gas insert and it provides a good amount of heat, but would not recommend the company we worked with, commonwealth fireplace. Pretty slow and disorganized and expensive.”
“Whether you’re fired up about a wood-burning stove or would rather remote-click to set a gas model ablaze, these Norwood experts help up your flame game. Their 4,800-square-foot showroom is a creative hotbed of some 50 lit fireplace and stove displays from the likes of Mendota, HearthStone, and Pacific Energy.”
Installed 3 fireplaces. 2 are fantastic. 1 has never consistently worked. Avoid the Ortal power vent. Probably the power vent but Commonwealth sold and installed the junk and we have had nothing but maintenance people come in. After a few hours their guys can get it going but it won’t work the next. Looks beautiful but it’s garbage.
I can’t say enough good things about Commonwealth Fireplace and, in particular, Jodi. From start to finish, the entire experience has been exceptional. Jodi has gone above and beyond at every step of the process. Her level of customer service is truly outstanding—she’s incredibly responsive, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely focused on making sure you end up with the right product for your home rather than simply trying to make a sale. Every question I had was answered thoroughly, and she took the time to walk me through different options, explain the pros and cons, and help me make an informed decision. It’s rare to find this level of personal attention and follow-through today. Commonwealth Fireplace itself is equally impressive. Their showroom is fantastic and gives you the opportunity to actually see and experience a wide range of fireplaces rather than trying to make a decision from pictures or brochures. The selection is excellent, and everyone I interacted with was extremely knowledgeable about the products they carry. What really sets Commonwealth apart, though, is the combination of product expertise and customer service. They know fireplaces inside and out, but they also understand that this is a significant purchase and take the time to make the entire process easy and comfortable. I would recommend Commonwealth Fireplace without hesitation. And if you have the opportunity to work with Jodi, you’ll be in exceptionally good hands. She has been an absolute pleasure to work with and has gone well beyond what I would normally expect from a retailer. A truly first-class experience.
Went to the store two Saturday in a row and both times they could not get me the information I needed and said they would call me on Tuesday. Both times no calls to me. I was working with a guy name Dana Berger. It is almost like they do not want to sell anything wasted 3 hours of my time
Lots of selection for fireplaces, more limited for wood stoves. It was busy on the weekend, plan ahead if you want to talk to someone.
Terrible Customer Service! Still waiting for call back 3 days later. This is not the first time this has happened.
