Verified record
Cross Tie Construction has been building custom homes in the Plainville area since 2009, and the record for them is a consistently strong one: an A+ with the Better Business Bureau, a 4.9 out of 5 average across nine Houzz reviews, and a company built by Rick O'Brien and Bob Meeks, who bring more than 80 years of combined residential-construction experience to it. What comes through again and again in the written reviews — all dated between 2014 and 2017 — is how closely the company works with clients through a full custom build: homeowners describe Rick and Bob personally helping set realistic budgets, monitoring cost and scope through construction, and being "extraordinarily helpful" from initial concept to finished home. A 2015 reviewer called them great to work with from design through completion; a 2014 account credits them with keeping a full custom build finished on time and within budget, with subcontractors executing to code throughout. The one dissent in the record, a 2016 review, is worth reading closely rather than skipping past: that homeowner was unhappy with the quality of a painter and an electrician subcontracted on the job, but noted that once they raised it with Rick and Bob directly, both subs were swapped out for acceptable replacements — a real complaint, but one the company responded to and fixed. The same reviewer had used Cross Tie for two projects by that point. Cross Tie lists a Massachusetts construction license (MA 018456) on its Houzz profile — a directory claim, not something verified here — and its BBB profile confirms the same 17-year tenure the company states on its own site, with no complaints on file there. For a homeowner planning a ground-up custom build or a substantial renovation in southeastern Massachusetts or northern Rhode Island, the record here is unusually deep for a company this size: nine written accounts spanning several years, mostly full custom-home builds, with one flagged subcontractor issue that got fixed rather than ignored. Worth asking directly which subcontractors they're using on trades like electrical and painting, given that 2016 account, and confirming the license is current before signing.

I am pleased to give a high recommendation to Cross Tie for the terrific job they did on the remodel of our kitchen and 4 season room. This was a very extensive remodel, and I was quite stressed at the beginning not knowing what to expect. I was soon put at ease with the professionalism and courtesy of everyone involved. The workmanship was of the highest quality, and they were able to deliver results that were beyond my expectations; i.e. both beautiful and functional.
We are so pleased with our home renovation done by Cross Tie Construction. The design work was amazing and the process was an easy one. We appreciate the professionalism and suggestions made by Cross Tie during the renovation to make our original design better. We are so pleased with the finished result and still cannot believe we live in such a beautiful home! We have already recommended Cross Tie to friends.
We have built two homes with the builders at Crosstie Construction and been quite happy with both experiences. They are excellent to work with and the quality of work and the home built is exceptional. They worked closely with us on our most recent home and were very patient in helping us to design a home that we love. Additionally, they are very responsive to follow up for punch list items. We would definitely recommend them.
We have been very pleased with the work quality and professionalism shown to us by Cross Tie Construction. Since designing and building our home 12 years ago, we have returned to Cross Tie for several other additions and projects around our home including an outdoor shower, master bedroom fireplace and more. We love our home and Cross Tie continues to help us make it better with every project we initiate.
Design went very well. Quality of build was very good. I was not thrilled with the painter and one of the electrician subs-in both instances quality was below expectations. However when brought to Rick/Bob's attention both subs were replaced with acceptable alternatives. Job took a bit longer than originally planned-should build this into your expectations. I have used them for two projects to date.
