Eighty-five reviews on Houzz average a perfect 5.0, and the pattern in the written ones is projects most contractors would turn away: three-quarters of a house rebuilt after a fire, a custom home raised in Osterville, additions and whole-house renovations. CustomWorks Contracting, LLC works out of Framingham and is categorized on Houzz and BuildZoom as a general contractor — its own service list adds home additions, custom homes, new construction, and home restoration alongside kitchen and bathroom remodeling. The written record itself is short but unanimous: 13 reviews across Houzz and BuildZoom, every one five stars, spanning 2017 through March 2022. In a 2022 review, a homeowner whose house had partially burned early in the pandemic described hiring the company to rebuild three-quarters of it working only from an insurance "scope," with no architect's plans — she credited Joe and the crew with patience through a project reshaped repeatedly by delays. An architect who hired the company for three projects wrote in 2020 that the two finished ones were among the best residential construction work he had overseen, citing kept schedules and transparent budgeting. A property manager who used the company for more than a decade of repairs on Commonwealth Ave properties — deck rebuilds, window replacements, masonry — called the pricing fair and the work thorough, also in a 2020 review. Worth asking about before booking: nothing on file is recent. Every review dates to 2017-2022, so there's no written account of the last several years' work. BuildZoom also notes a couple of older Newton, Massachusetts contractor registrations as inactive, one once flagged as cancelled — separately, it lists an active Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration for the company, so it's worth confirming directly which licenses are current. This is a fit for a homeowner planning a real renovation — an addition, a gut remodel, a custom build — rather than a small carpentry job, and several reviewers came back for more than one project. Given the age of the written praise, ask for references from recent work before signing on.

CustomWorks Contracting are an excellent team. I would recommend them without any doubt. All of their workers - and the sub-contractors they work with - are very kind, hardworking people, and knowledgeable professionals. They have finished my renovation project as efficiently and quickly as was humanely possible (especially under the pandemic conditions which brought various delays and such..) And after the project completion, they have always made themselves available for any posterior touch-ups that may be necessary once you being to inhabit/use the space. Overall - extremely thankful for their help. Thank you CustomWorks Contracting!
It has been a pleasure working with Joe and his team. Good communication thru out the project with estimates and any changes
Joe was extremely professional, very responsive and most magically of all, his project estimates were prescient. I’m an architect and have worked with many contractors in several countries, and Joe was by far the most punctual, accountable and cooperative of any contractors I’ve worked with: I’ve had HORRIBLE experiences with other contractors that earned the Best of Boston from Boston Magazine area, but I would immediately work with CustomWorks again if the opportunity arises.
We hired CustomWorks during the COVID pandemic to restore 3/4’s of our house after a house fire. The job was complicated because of insurance delays and the fact that there could be no architect or designer involved, hence no actual plans to work from, just an insurance “scope” of what was to be replaced. We had never so much as built an addition or redone a bathroom, so we were on a big learning curve rebuilding the interior of a whole house, with many questions. Joe and his team were patient and careful to find out what we hoped to do in the rebuild. They offered us options to consider and understood that we were working with an insurance budget based on what we’d previously had. They brought the same attention to detail to our challenging, medium-budget project as they do to much more expensive projects, and the quality shows. We are thrilled with the results. Joe is an excellent communicator. Occasionally it was challenging to get a response, but we understood we were originally scheduled to be a winter job, and insurance, COVID, etc., slid us into late spring and summer, colliding with large commitments Joe had been transparent about at the beginning. The electrician and plumber Joe hired for our project were super easy to work with and clearly cared about the quality of their work. They were used to working from plans, yet managed to get us what we asked for, and often better, on the fly. We’d certainly hire CustomWorks again, and would highly recommend them to others. There’s a reason they get such good reviews!
Wish we had found Custom work earlier! Once they arrived on the scene everything fell into place and finally made sense! They actually take the time to explain what is happening! They arrive when needed and don’t leave until the job is done and done right! We have just completed building a house in Osterville with their help and guidance and we recommend them highly. Custom works also manages our properties in Boston and Palm Beach
